The Wake-up Call

It was high school and "diet' everything was quickly becoming the new fad. My girlfriend took a swig of her diet soda. It nearly killed her. The aspartame attacked her body and we learned that "sugarless" meant "this will kill you."

So-called "unhealthy" sugar in foods is easily recognized by our bodies to be properly digested. While chemically created aspartame (A.K.A. NutraSweet, Equal Spoonful, Benevia, NatraTaste) is made of phenylalanine, aspartic acid and methanol (wood alcohol). Our bodies turn this into formaldehyde and formic acid. That means when we eat something made with aspartame, we are literally poisoning ourselves with the same ingredients used to embalm corpses.

Side Effects

92% of independently-funded research have identified over 90 side effects, including:

  • increased hunger
  • migraines
  • tremors
  • insomnia
  • blindness
  • fatigue
  • Alzheimer's
  • Epilepsy
  • MS
  • cancer
  • death

Plus, prolonged exposure to formaldehyde causes genetic mutation. A check of stats will clearly show a dramatic increase in children being born will illnesses, Down's Syndrome and physical defects since aspartame was introduced into our foods.

Side note: I've personally seen lab photos of rats fed aspartame before they were yanked off the internet. 2nd generation rats were born with "mild" defects like club feet and Down's Syndrome. 3rd generation rats were born dead or with severe physical mutations (limbs growing the wrong place or without brains). It was horrific. I cried for days.

The FDA denied approval of aspartame for 8 years. Arthur Hull Hayes, a newly appointed FDA commissioner, finally overruled the scientific review panel and approved aspartame. Shortly thereafter, he went to work for G.D. Searle's (initial owner of aspartame) earning $1,000 a day. Even though aspartame accounts for over 75% of complaints filed with the FDA, Monsanto (the company that now produces aspartame) is reportedly still paying bribes to keep this poison on the market and FDA approved. They are also ranked 5th among US corporations in the EPA's Toxic Release Inventory, having discharged 37 million pounds of toxic chemicals into the air, land and water.

Many countries have banned aspartame in children's products and steps are being taken to permanently ban this poison worldwide.

Please, please - before putting anything with this poison in your mouth, consider the long-term effects it will have not only on your body, but on your children and grandchildren.

Be warned: The pictures are very upsetting!! Please, do not let your children view them.

Hey Sparkleyfinger - Sorry to hear about the headaches :-( If you can find a juicer and/or smoothie maker for cheap (eg. second-hand shop, ebay, etc.) these will be much more useful for helping you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Smoothies or fresh juice from fruits and veggies ... YUM. You can customize your flavours and experiment with "recipes". Have fun with your food :-D

WOW! i really like fizzy juice. REALLY REALLY... and my recent bid to lose weight has meant that I have switched to diet or zero versions, along with using sweetener in place of sugar. I have found that my headaches have increased, but nothing worse than that has happened, so far. This is quite a shocking hub, and I think I will be less likely to drink diet juice from now on :(

Oh Mike!! I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother-in-Law :-( I'm so glad you're not chewing that gum anymore. I'm finding it hard to get find gum without it in Canada, too. When I do find it, it's a speciality item and costs almost $2 for a dozen. Ridiculous. You're right - it is in just about everything now. You have to read labels VERY carefully because some things that still have sugar in them ALSO have aspartame in it, listed further down! Thanks so much for commenting and sharing your story.

I have discovered the toxic Aspertame only recently by watching a documentary on sky. It is frightening why the people we trust are trying to do us harm, flouride in water to dumb us down and now methanol to induce disease. I truly wish I had known this 3 years ago, my wifes mother was so full of life but wanted to lose weight she opted for the sugar free drinks and sweeteners in coffee, one year later she was diabetic. 2 years from then she died of cancer. The thing is it's in everything I used to go to work everday with a packet of Airways Gum and now I know why I was so forgetfull and snappy with people. Keep up the good work

He is registered as disabled and is often admitted to hospital so not really - he still has bad fits and also other problems.

Wiow - I hope your son is doing better now. I was crushed when Wrigleys went over to the dark side. It was my favourite ...

I couldn't find any gum without it in any more either so gave up using the stuff. I was disgusted when Wrigleys started adding the muck to their Regular gum as well as the Sugar Free. If people want to be poisoned that is up to them but I certainly don't. Btw my son is epileptic and I have warned him about the stuff. Many years back he didn't pay attention to my warning and was using body-builder powder containing it and he had 13 major fits on the same day!

YIKES! I'm sorry to hear about your eyes :-( I was lucky. A girlfriend in high school went into shock and had to be rushed to the hospital, so I learned at a young age to stay away from artificial sweeteners. Unfortunately, I can't even find chewing gum that doesn't contain aspartame unless I go to the dollar store and get a bag of those gum balls that go stale in two minutes flat - YUCK :-(

I have signed the petition included in this great hub! I am totally against aspartame and believe it damaged my vision because I suffer from floaters that started many years back when I stupidly ignored warnings and was using chewing gum that contained it. Nowadays I check all labels!
