Capsaicin is the active ingredient found in chili peppers, the one that makes you taste the "fire" when they're popped into your mouth. And while many people enjoy these hot peppers, scientists have now found in animal studies, that capsaicin promotes weight loss.
How Capsaicin Works...
Capsaicin has terrific antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which means their good for us. Now it seems that the "heat" they're known for is also involved in thermogenesis, or the body's process of burning fat.
In the study, published in the Journal of Proteome Research, rats were fed a high-fat diet along with capsaicin. At the end of nine weeks, they were evaluated and it was found that they gained eight-percent less than rats on the high-fat diet without benefit of capsaicin.
More good news! Scientists found that capsaicin also had a positive affect on genes involved with obesity, including those associated with thermogenesis and fat oxidation...
