Top 5 Ways To Be Successful When Nobody Believes in You

Updated on October 26, 2014
Be Successful
Be Successful

You have a business idea, a life goal, or a dream that you want to pursue, but the only person who believes in you is the person staring back at you in the mirror. While it is nice to having a cheering section, that is not going to always happen in life.

However, just because your Mother or best friend doesn't believe you can achieve your dreams doesn't mean you should avoid going for them! Following are 5 ways to be successful without a cheering squad standing behind you.

1. Choose To Live Your Life Without Regret

Yes, your Mother thinks that you will never be successful and make your dream of writing a novel come true, but that doesn't mean you should give up! If you do give up, then you will live with the 'what if's' of life, and that can quickly turn into regret.

That regret can be harmful to your mental health and eventually create physical problems as well. We all know that tight and sickening feeling we get in our stomach when regret comes around. That kind of stress on the body can lead to issues such as ulcers and digestive issues.

Regret can also affect your relationships with the people who caused you to avoid going after your dreams. You don't want to hate your Mother because she talked you out of writing your novel; instead, go for it anywase with the intention of proving her wrong.

2. Always Remember Your Freedom To Choose

In order to be successful in life you have to choose many different things. First, you have to choose to go after what you want, then you have to choose what action to take, and then you have to choose to take another action when success is not happening. Choices are a big part of anyone's success, and when nobody believes in you, then you can choose to 'do it anywase'!

Many people feel that they are going to disappoint or anger someone if they choose to go after their dreams, and that can hold them back from doing so. If you want to be successful in life on your own terms, then you are going to have to choose your own path regardless of what other people think.

The truth is that they are usually not that disappointed or angry. The fear of how they will react is usually worse than the reality of it.

3. Remember That It Has All Been Done Without Support

You are not the only one who didn't have people backing you up while trying to be successful. There are many great people in history that kept on going even though nobody believed in them, and they eventually found success.

For example, when someone is coming up with theories, like Einstein did, it is hard to believe in him without any hard evidence, but he went on contributing his thoughts regardless. His theories are still proving to be correct today, and even in his death, he proved successful in his life.

4. Success Comes To Those Who Try

All of the people who don't believe in you will be people who have not tried hard enough in life. Maybe they tried to go after their dreams initially, but something happened which caused them to give up. In the end, they never really continued to try to, therefore, they were never able to be successful themselves.

You can see how they would pooh-pooh the idea of your dreams when their dreams never came true. People like this often say things like "no one can have everything they want in life" or "life was meant to be hard." Their mentality is stuck in the 'I can't' or 'I shouldn't' phase, and they are projecting that mentality onto you.

If you want to be successful, then you have to keep going after your dreams. Failure is a part of the path to success, and if you understand that, then you will keep going no matter what.

5. Find Support From Strangers Who Believe In You

Many people believe that you will be successful, and they do not even know you! These are the people in life who believe that everyone can achieve their dreams and goals, regardless of where they come from, who they are, and what kind of support system they have. They believe that success comes from within, not from your circumstances.

You may never talk to these people, but you can read about them and their beliefs in books. You can also hear their beliefs on audio, since most of these people tend to be outspoken about life and finding success in it.

John Assaraf, Tony Robbins, Oprah Winfrey, and Jack Canfield are just a few of the people you can take comfort from, and interestingly enough, they are the people who had very little support in their own dreams and goals.

The bottom line is this: You can be successful in life, you just have to push forward and keep long as you put one foot in front of the other, you will never stop moving towards your goals in life.

Great hub, Kari. Great tips. I always wanted to be a best-selling author and make that dream come true. After a lot of blood, sweat, tears, 100+ rejections, I hope to make that dream a reality this year with an agent and/or pub deal. I've been told that I'm resilient with perseverance and never gave up. I'm 100% determined to make it happen somehow. It's always great to have a support team, online and in person, with friends and family to be your safety net. Voted up!

Great hub with a lot of good points, especially that it takes effort to be successful and support can be found elsewhere.

It can always be a rallying point when people don't believe in you, but what about when they believe in you but they don't?

What I mean is so many people support me but with the aftertaste of "He's bound to fail." Just food for thought.

I really enjoyed the article and thanks for the inspiration.

A thought provoking motivational message. You know it isn't the smartest, richest, or most beautiful person who succeeds, it's the person with determination who refuses to give up.

Thanks for commenting soconfident. You are right, there will always be people, for whatever reason, who do those things and try to stand in the way of your success and happiness. "Get out of the way!"

Thanks kj. I always love your comments. It is funny because blame still gets spread even though there are tons of examples of people who have succeeded despite the 'odds'. This article just listed a few, but most (if not all) people who are successful did so despite of things in their way.

I could have said it better myself. There will always be people who will try to tear you down or just believe you won't make it so these tips you provided are very moving. Thanks.

Relationshipc...well written and interesting hub...we as humans need to take responsibility for ourselves , too many times the blame for being unsuccessful is shifted to various reasons of our background/upbringing etc..when we fail or succeed

we need to realize WE are the captains of our own ship in life..we can chosose to sail the rough waters or dock in the marina...either way the ship needs maintenance..

      Great inspirational hub..kudos..good job...
