Being in a Quiet World

Silence is Golden

Not only is Silence is Golden,
it is also very dear,highly valuable thing to me. The older I get, the more I tune in the absolute stillness and the calmness of no sound, instead of the all the RACKET in the world. With all the hi-tech gadgets like boom boxes and HD flat screens,better cell phones (can you hear me now?), loud malls, frantic and noisy grocery stores and let's not forget OUR WORK, its pretty much un-nerving. And if ya watch any television its all crazy loud, but like they say, there is a time and place for everything.

My Day Off

The main reason I wrote this because I got up this morning, it was my day off. I always get excited about writing,poured me a good cup of coffee, get the laptop out, put my fingers on the keys, right then, at that exact moment my husband turned on the television and loud commercials came on with the morning news,usually he is at work early in the morning.
First I really didn't notice it, then my mind went blank. I frowned at my blank screen. I had three potential hubs to write,but why couldn't I write anything?
'Oh, it's the TV', I thought.

But not wanting to hurt my husband's feelings or be just plain rude and me and the laptop go in the bedroom, so I tried to deal with it. Most of the time he is playing a video game which sometimes it has cool and soothing music on it, but not this time. I had so much work to do! He noticed me struggling and he said, "Is this bothering you?" but right then something on the news caught his attention and as he turned away I mumbled "it's okay".

Feeling Old

Its a catch 22, the SILENCE that is in my life, is beyond price and very precious, but on the other hand,am I just feeling old or set in my ways? And I don't want be the hateful woman that hollers,

"Pipe Down, I Can't Hear Myself Think!"

A Great Quote;
A man who lives right, and is right, has more power in his silence than another has by his words. By Phillips Brooks

      Thanks for sharing this, I feel the same way too. I need my moments of silence too, just as you described in your hub. Since I resigned from work and found more time to devote to writing, I have come to value my moments of silence and tranquility. I take advantage when my husband is at work and our son is at school. Thankfully, during times when they're around and I need my moment of space and peace, they understand and make sure they don't bother me. Though CraigRumery's idea of having a private island is an excellent thing to have, wouldn't mind having one of those myself.

      Brooks' quote is powerful, isn't it?!

      No, it's not feeling old, it's common sense--but how admirable to endeavor to grow old with grace!

      Your post here helps highlight the basic concept of today's Hub of the Day. The two should be linked together!
