Believe in Dreams
“I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was.” This is a quote from Muhammad Ali.
Muhammad Ali was the heavy weight champion of the World! He believed right from the very start, I am going to be a champion!
“I run to see who has the most guts.” A quote by Steve Prefontaine, a great American athlete. He didn't just run to get a medal but to see who was the strongest man in this race! Another famous quote by him is “I don't want to win unless I know I've done my best, and the only way I know how to do that is to run out front, flat out until I have nothing left. Winning any other way is chicken-shit.” My Dad always says this to me.
Mohandas Gandhi said “You must be the change you want to see in the world.” I like this quote because it means there is no good only talking about your dreams you have to do something about them. You must become your dream!
“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” I like this quote by Albert Einstein because it tells me that it is OK to make mistakes as long as you are following your dream. My Dad is fine when I make a mistake but when I keep making the same mistake ...watch out!
Eminem said “I was poor white trash, no glitter, no glamour, but I'm not ashamed of anything.” This same man who came from such a tough background had a dream. “My only scheme was to become a rapper.” he made it. I love Eminem's music and my Dad put together a few family videos with his music in the background.
“Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” This quote by John F. Kennedy is something my Dad always tells me but in a different way. He says “Think before you speak girl and plan your strategy for the race. Every race is lost and won in your mind.” I am getting better at planning what to do and when I do things do turn out better.
My Mum and Dad are famous in my eyes. They both had a dream and they made it happen. Their dream was to help people and that is what they do. Everyday they help people who come to them and that means they made their dream come true.
Follow Your Dream
All of the people I have written about here have/had a dream and the only way that their dreams could come true was because they believed strongly enough and did something about them. You can't just say “Oh I have a dream” and then don't do anything about it. It's no good just thinking about it. You have to pursue your dream with all your heart dream. Choose your dream and then keep thinking about it. Wake up thinking about it, dream about it, talk about it and do things to make it happen.
Dreaming my dreams come true
I am still at the choosing stage for my bigger dreams like what kind of job to do but I am making my other dreams come true. Here are some of the dreams I am now living:
I am a singer. I recently came 4th out of 35 singers in a singing competition called The Guild.
I play the violin. I am going for my Grade 3 exam soon.
I am an actress. I have played many roles and my most recent was Moley in The Adventures of Mr Toad.
I am an athlete. I am one of the top cross country and middle distance runners for my age on the island.
I am a swimmer. I am competing in the Manx Youth games and breast stroke is my favourite stroke.
I am top scorer for my hockey team and I was a key player when my netball team came third in a recent regional school tournament.
If my fairy godmother appeared to me now and waved her magic wand asked me what would I like I would say:
I want my body to become more flexible and to be a faster runner.
I want to be in the top 10 in the music charts.
I want to run 800m in the Olympics and win Gold.
Maybe someday I will write a hub about how I achieved my dreams.
