Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid on Different Parts of the Body

Updated on July 19, 2016

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

According to Wikipedia, “ Hyaluronic acid (HA; conjugate base hyaluronate), also called hyaluronan, is an anionic, nonsulfated glycosaminogly can distributed widely throughout connective, epithelial, and neural tissues. It is unique among glycosaminoglycans in that it is nonsulfated, forms in the plasma membrane instead of the Golgi, and can be very large, with its molecular weight often reaching the millions. One of the chief components of the extracellular matrix, hyaluronan contributes significantly to cell proliferation and migration, and may also be involved in the progression of some malignant tumors.”

I read about Hyaluronic Acid in some book. The only idea I was able to get through the write-up was that it is a chemical that has anti-aging benefits. I decided to do an extended research and got to learn a few things about the chemical.

Things to know about Hyaluronic Acid

  • It is one of those substances that is naturally present in the human body. Our body contains almost 15 grams of the Hyaluronic Acid that is present in every part of the body. Like any other anti-aging hormone in our body, even the content of the acid present in our body starts to reduce as we age.
  • It is found in the highest concentration in the joints and eyes in the form of liquid.
  • It has several functions. Its benefits can be observed in the skin and is also great for eye and joint health.
  • It contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • As we reach our mid-40's, the content of HA reaches the half of the required content.

Here are the few benefits of Hyaluronic Acid on different parts of our body

Skin – Of the entire content Of HA in our body, one half of the component is present in the skin's collagen. Therefore, it's importance in the skin's aging process is evident. It makes an awesome moisturizer as it has the capacity to retain it's weight in the water around 1000 times within the cells of the skin. Researches have proven that no other biological substance has the ability to maintain as much of water as HA. That is why it results in increased smoothness of the skin and lesser wrinkles.

The use of hyaluronic in the anti-aging treatments is getting popular. Especially in the cosmetic procedures, it is highly recommended to repeat the therapy regularly because it gets destroyed after some time. As these treatments are quite expensive, it becomes tough to consider getting the therapy again and again.

Joints – We all are aware of the growth in the arthritis cases in the recent years. A lot of people around the world are suffering from the joint diseases like osteoporosis and arthritis. This has also given rise to the growth in the demand for Glucosamine supplements as it is known to build healthier, stronger and flexible joints. The treatment of Hyaluronic Acid for joints can be administered for attaining better joint health. The component can be directly injected into the joints for boosting the flow of lubricating liquid in the joints.

Eyes – As already mentioned, Hyaluronic acid is found in a good deal in the liquid form in the eyes. It is widely used in the cataract surgery. In fact, Hyaluronic acid is one of those medical products that was first utilized in the eye surgery and showed awesome results. It proved to be a miraculous substance in the treatment and boosted up the process of healing. It is known as an eye tissue lubricating agent and hence becomes one of the best medicines for the treatment of dry eyes. Though the ingestion of HA is highly beneficial in the treatment of eye related diseases, but even the consumption of oral supplements of HA may also repair your eyesight.

Gums- Gum disease is a common problem affecting millions of the adults throughout the world. Especially a lot of people over the age of 35 are suffering from some sort of gum disease. Gum disease is one of the biggest causes of tooth loss around the globe. Evidence of Hyaluronic acid in the regeneration of fresh and healthy gum tissues have been evident. It is also known for reducing the inflammation of the gums and heals the cause that leads to bleeding gums.

There are several other additional benefits associated with the use of Hyaluronic acid powder and other supplements. It is known to support faster wound healing.
