It's easy to gain weight but losing it can be quite frustrating. One of the reasons why you may not be losing weight despite the number of calories that you are cutting down on is the fact that you may be making the wrong food choices. In order to burn more fat, your body should be able to function more efficiently. This means that you should take in foods that can enhance your metabolism and remove cholesterol from your bloodstream. You should also choose foods that are complex and will require your body to release a lot of energy in order to be processed. You should also include foods that can increase the heat production of your body. Below are some of the foods that you shouldn't forget to include in your diet.

Citrus Fruits

Known for their immunity boosting and free radical busting anti-oxidants, citrus fruits and vegetables can also help you lose weight because vitamin C plays an important role in the oxidation of fat. In fact, a study has shown that people who do not have enough vitamin C in their body tend to burn less body fat than people who do. It also has the ability to lower cholesterol levels. Better yet, citrus fruits contain a lot of fiber and control insulin levels, suppressing your appetite. Although vitamin C can be taken in as supplements, you shouldn't miss out on the extra benefits of eating citrus fruits. You should also opt for whole fruits instead of fruit juices which tend to contain less fiber and more sugar. Worse, you tend to drink more than the recommended serving, causing you to consume more sugar. Try eating a serving of citrus fruits after every meal. This is much better than taking in a serving of cake or ice cream that is high in sugar.

Oatmeal and High-fiber Cereals

Lose weight by cutting down on bagels and donuts and replacing them with a bowl of oatmeal or high-fiber cereals. Oatmeal and cereals that are rich in fiber can keep you filling full all morning, preventing you from snacking before lunch break. At the same time, it can help in maintaining your blood glucose levels, controlling the release of insulin which promotes the storage of body fat. Of course, you should avoid products that contain a lot of sugar. Always check the nutrition facts at the back of the package. Cereals that contain chocolate chips and marshmallows may taste good but you should stick with the plain ones as they do not contain ingredients that can jeopardize your weight loss goals. If you want to add something sweet to make your oatmeals or cereals tastier, why not opt for some bananas or berries instead?

Dairy Products

Lose weight while saving your bones from osteoporosis by taking in at least three servings of dairy per day. The reason for this is that the calcium in dairy can cause increases in thermogenesis, which boosts are body's metabolism and causes us to burn more fat. A study on 32 obese individuals revealed that people who eat dairy products tend to lose more weight when compared to people who relied on calcium supplements. Dairy products also contain protein which is difficult to digest. Hence, the body tends to use up more energy in breaking it down. It also keeps you feeling satiated for a longer period of time. Of course, it is important that you stick with low-fat dairy products that do not contain a lot of sugar. Try having some low fat milk and high-fiber cereal at the start of your day. You can also have some low-fat yoghurt with fruits instead of gunning down a milk shake or a cup of ice cream for your snack. And, capping the day with some milk may help you sleep better.

Whether they are frozen, dry-roasted, liquefied or in the form of mock meat, eating soybeans can help you reach your weight loss goal. A study conducted by Dr. James Anderson show that meal replacements which contain soy caused a decrease in cholesterol and glucose levels. Better yet, subjects who drank soy-based meal replacements lost more weight than those who drank milk-based ones. Another study in the University of Illinois revealed that the peptides present in soy can help in altering one's metabolism, making an individual lose weight faster.

As we grow older, our basal metabolic rate (BMR) tends to become lower, making it more difficult for us to lose weight. The results of the study in the University of Illinois can mean that we still have some hope. If that is not enough to convince you to include soy beans in your diet, you can calculate the amount of fat that you save your body from when you choose a veggie burger instead of one that is made of ground beef or having Szechuan tofu instead of pork.

These small fruits pack a lot of benefits like preventing memory loss and diseases. They can also help you lose weight.

Blackberries, for example, contain flavonoids that can make your blood vessels and capilliaries stronger. They also contain ellagic acid which can boost your immune system as they contain antioxidant, antiviral and antibacterial properties. They also have some anthocyanins which are known for preventing cancer. And, if that's not enough reason to snack on these fruits when the are on season, here's another one. Blackberries can help you lose weight. These berries contain pectin, which can maintain the level of your blood sugar level, keeping your from becoming hungry easily.

Blueberries, which are known for their high anti-oxidant properties, have also been proven to aid in getting rid of abdominal fat. These berries can change the way the body processes and stores sugar, naturally suppressing a person's appetite and preventing the storage of excess sugar as fat.

Strawberries, on the other hand, can increase the release of a hormone that can enhance your metabolism and suppress your appetite. They can also regulate the rate of digestion of starchy foods, keep your blood sugar level even. So, instead of taking a bag of chips or getting a bar of chocolate, you might as well start snacking on berries. Of course, this doesn't mean that you can eat jams filled with sugar and cheesecakes and still lose weight.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Weight Loss

Here's another fruit that you can snack on all day. Not only are they low in fat and calories, they also contain a lot of fiber which can make your feel full without eating too much. Just like blackberries, they also contain pectin which can bind with cholesterol and draw it out of your bloodstream. Eating apples can also help in keeping your blood glucose level even, preventing surges that can stimulates your body to store sugar as fat.

Green Tea

Lose the Joe and get a cup of green tea instead. Research has shown that drinking five cups of green tea can help you lose 70 to 80 more calories because of the epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in it. This can be a great complement to your diet and exercise routine.

As mentioned in the introduction, these fat burning foods can enhance your body's metabolism. This, however, doesn't mean that eating these foods is enough to lose weight. You still need to exercise regularly in order to lose weight. These foods can, however, help you burn more fat when going through with your exercise programs.
