Strengths and Challenges of Depression

Updated on December 16, 2013

Are the affects of Depression Real

Depression affects many people in different ways. Major depression can come with anxiety attacks, weight gain and insomnia. More women than men suffer everyday with sadness, unable to find the light at the end of the tunnel. Ethics and Values play into the role of how many deal with depression. Some believe that there is no such thing as depression and it just feeling they can forget about eventually. I have come to believe that depression is real.

Depression has many different faces.

A little over eighteen million suffer from depression each day whether it be anxiety, dysthymia and/or bipolar etc. I grew up in a family of nine brothers and sister and we all have some sort of mental illness and there is nothing we can do about it...or so I thought.

Depression can have a strong hold on the body and mind but there are capabilities built deep in the mind that can be triumphant. Self worth and ethics play a really big role into how problems are handled or processed in the mind.

I am constantly sabotaging my life because sometimes I don't care about me. I am reckless and I show no fear because I have little to no concern for my life. Then I have to slow down and realize that I am not alone in this world and I have obligations to others around to live a long and healthy.

Guilt takes over because when I finally do settle back down and get into some kind of routine, I wonder why I did the things I did. Having unprotected sex with strangers. Taking drugs from strangers. Running away from home for days and weeks. Depression is serious and it doesn't hide at all.
