Bright Girls In The Darkest Of World's ....Undaunted.

Updated on October 8, 2009

Bright girls in the

darkest of worlds...undaunted.

They were all bright girls

with hopes and dreams

daily facing horrid scenes

of bullet holes,

huge shrapnel wounds

punctured lungs

and ruptured spleens.

Trying to stem the flows

from the bloody holes

where there once

were feet and hands

there was no job worse...

men would scream and curse

words each nurse

could hardly stand.

But they put thier

hopes and dreams aside

as they fought the awesome tide,

of casualty lists

rising oh, so high

they couldn't win...

but still they tried...

They took care of us

through our pain and fear

when the war had cut us down.

They would share with us

words of hope and cheeer

as they sadly made their rounds.

And as they watched

each precious young man die

inside a bit of them died too

it was so hard to wash

away the bloodof

a soldier they once knew.

Each time those body bags

went home they'd whisper,

"Godspeed, we'll miss you...

Thanks for all you tried to do...

Wish I could have saved you too."

In Washington D.C.

in bronze....

carved in their memory

stands a monument

to all these girls

who served to keep us free.

Daily as the men

they helped to heal

gather here.....

each vet becomes

"A living tribute...

etched in flesh...

raised by what

these girls have done."

We salute them every one.
