Brittney Spears $350K Body Makeover... and the Judging begins
So there's this story...
... about Brittney Spears spending $350,000 on her body makeover with pictures to confirm. The before & after shots probably spark the most controversy. The judgment of what’s beautiful and what’s not borders on ridiculous. Add to that what it costs (financially, emotionally, and physically) for this makeover and I’m praying that women look the other way on this one.
27-years old, 5 feet, 5 inches, and two children later, Brittney has lost 30 lbs., going from a size 6 to a size 2. Needless to say, this concerns me. Especially considering that my recovery from obsessive, controlling, disordered eating behaviors had me changing my lifestyle to reverse these numbers in order to be healthy and live. Wow… eye-opening. Brittney Spears is an icon for girls, teenagers, and women all over the world – now ladies, we have something else to compare ourselves to and Judge.
Some comments come to mind.
I could look like that if I had $350,000 too!
All those surgeries? Can that be healthy?
What are those injections made of?
That doesn’t sound like fun! Rigorous workouts? Who has that time?
Mmmm, no sugar, baked chicken, every day… no thank you.
Brittney’s new body came with a price.
- A $250,000 home gym
- A tummy-tuck
- A breast-lift surgery
- A minimum of 12 soybean injections to dissolve fat & cellulite
- Rigorous workouts with a personal trainer at $6,000 a month
- No more sugar
- A diet of fruit, vegetables, and baked chicken
Last time I checked, life was for living. Unfortunately, with so much media-gazing, we have less time for living because we are comparing and contrasting ourselves with everyone else. Sure, Brittney has the time and the money to have that body and perhaps she’s happier because of it.
But, compare it to this:
Yesterday, I went to work early in the morning, ate strawberries, cheese, and crackers for breakfast because that’s what my body was craving. I spent the day having great conversations, strengthening friendships and working to support other people. When I got home, I went for a fun, exciting mountain bike ride with a friend, suffering minor injuries and laughing the entire time. Returning from that adventure, my friend and I worked on an outside project (building a cabinet to store an outdoor mini-fridge) and enjoyed the sunshine and cool breeze. Another friend came by later and we made quesadillas, drank beer, and talked for a few hours. When my boyfriend came home, we spent some time catching up on the day and finally curled up for a much-needed and appreciated good night’s sleep.
Every single memory of my day yesterday is filled with warmth and love. Every thought of Brittney’s quest feels cold and inhuman to me. What happens if you make your own comparisons?
May I make a suggestion? Look through these images and remember what’s most important in life.
Because life really is short.
May you live, love, and laugh.
