Buffet, Souls Ain't Born. This Ain't My Hub. But All Mistakes Are Mine.

Updated on April 10, 2014

I did not make this canyon. But I have been given privilege to hike over 2,000 miles in it.

I was not born without a soul. And souls don't die.

Now I cannot speak to this truth. Except that I have dreamed of it.

This story is not about Jimmy Buffet or his music it is about loving and caring and about just how precious our lives are.
I was not born nor will I ever be a saint. But I have seen miracles such as this.

JIMMY BUFFETT LYRICS

Play Song"Reggabilly Hill"

I don't know if I was dreamin' I don't know if it was real
Everything was movin' and yet everything was still
People came from everywhere and no one felt the chill
That lingered in the valley down by Reggabilly Hill

They came across the water they came across the sand
Everyone was singing Oh you should of heard the band
A song in adoration of the everlasting will
That gathered them together there on Reggabilly Hill

Ocean deep mountain high
And a river of blood flowed down
Pourin' out from a wound that would not heal
So always and forever we'll remember how it feels

The ones who had it all and the ones who'd made a name
Were walkin' side by side with the naked and the lame
Hungry little children ate until they had their fill
Then they tumbled through the clover down on Reggabilly Hill

On top of the hill they were dancin' through a fire
Whirl away the sorrow as you move a little higher
Slowly makin' circles through the purple sky until
You could barely see 'em wavin' there on Reggabilly Hill

Ocean deep mountain high
And a river of blood flowed down
Pourin' out from a wound that would not heal
Always and forever we'll remember how it feels
Always and Forever

So let us just pause and consider the possibilities brought on by a gathering of love.

I want to dance with Satchmo and Oscar and I want to smile like there is not yesterday or tomorrow.

Please stop reading and hug yourself. Just hug yourself. You are worthy of your love. And then you can give it to others as a wheel inside their wheel of life

JIMMY BUFFETT LYRICS

Now I am not a genius - close but not really in the traditional sense, I lend more toward spiritual stuff. But this song reminds me that no matter how danged cool and smart and educated I get, I am only a wheel inside a wheel and not the driver of the car or the producer of my movie or the director or writer of the script. I am a participant by the grace of God and not by my own will.

Play Song"Wheel Inside The Wheel"

The parade of souls is marching across the sky
Their heat and their light bathed in blue as they march by
The All Stars play "When the Saints Go Marching In"
A second line forms and they wave white hankies in the wind

Satchmo takes a solo, and he flashes his million dollar smile
Marie Laveau promenades with Oscar Wilde
Big Funky Stella twirls her little red umbrella to the beat
As the soul parade winds its way down Eternity Street

Souls ain't born, souls don't die
Soul ain't made of earth, ain't made of water, ain't made of sky
So, ride the flaming circle, wind the golden reel
And roll on, brother, in the wheel inside the wheel

Mardi Gras Indians chant in the streets at sundown
Spyboy meets Spyboy, and Big Chief meets Big Chief uptown
They circle and sway in their rainbow colored feathers and beads
They prance like peacocks, children of slavery freed

Souls ain't born, souls don't die
Soul ain't made of earth, ain't made of water, ain't made of sky
Ride the flaming circle, wind the golden reel
Roll on, brother, in the wheel inside the wheel

The Krewe of the Crossbones parades into the midnight sun
They march through the fire and come out beating homemade drums
While the French Quarter Queens in their high-heeled drag disguise
Sing "Over the Rainbow" 'til Judy Garland quivers and sighs

Souls ain't born, souls don't die
Soul ain't made of earth, ain't made of water, ain't made of sky
Ride the flaming circle, wind the golden reel
And roll on, brother, in the wheel inside the wheel

Flambeau dancers light the walkway to Jean Pierre's
There's a party tonight and all the girls are gonna be there
Sipping wormwood concoctions, drinking absinthe and talking trash
It's a red carpet, black tie, all night, celestial bash

Souls ain't born, souls don't die
Soul ain't made of earth, ain't made of water, ain't made of sky
Ride the flaming circle, wind the golden reel
And roll on, brother, in the wheel inside the wheel
I said roll on, brother, in the wheel inside the wheel
Yeah, roll on, brother, in the wheel inside the wheel

Even man can make beauty. Roll on brother.

I got no issue with you except if you do not like me loving you.

Can you do it?

Can you love yourself?

See results

Only fair to give you both songs.

Let us bust this down as this old preacher man loves to do.

Let us not be consumed with what we see, smell, touch, feel, hear or learn in school. Let us learn to live and learn other possibilities. Let us see, smell, touch, feel and hear with our hearts. Do not get me wrong I love education and my wife and I hold nearly a dozen, certificates and degrees combined. We both will start up with new schooling this year --- because that is what we do. Heck she learned piano and I learned infant EMT just because. She don't play much and I ain't got no infant.

So what I am trying to get through to me (I always write so I learn not to teach) is that I need to stop looking in my wallet for cash but rather for a card that will let somebody call me, if I can be of service to them, in the heart not the wallet.

Now let us end in a secular prayer. "Dear me, help me to be stronger, help me to do better and help me to love more and stronger."

When we reach out a hand to help we are helping ourselves each and every time, and ain't that a beautiful thing?

And Bill like you show us so often. When we help ourselves we lift those just a simple step sideways. Maybe our path stinks and our steps are not for others. But by golly gee willikers I will hold on to that rotten root with all my might for my other hand to save my sister. We are in fact made of each other and that common bond is love.

I sit hunched with hat in hand on bended knee to give thanks that you care.

This hub is a winner Eric because Jimmy Buffet is my all time favourite singer. His music takes me to a happy place whenever I'm feeling down. Was taking my grand daughter into town yesterday and put on a best of Jimmy Buffet cd in the player. She enjoyed bopping along to Jimmy sing Mr Spaceman accompanied by the Muppets, and The Song Pour Les Petite Enfants etc (as did I). Lucky I dropped her off before 'Please Take Your Drunken 16 Year Old Girlfriend Home' came on...lol.
