I like writing about topics that I'm passionate about as a way of outlining all my research efforts so that they not only help me, but you.

Why Choose Caffeine-Free Pre-Workouts?

We all have reasons for avoiding caffeine in our pre-workouts. Reasons ranging from bodily intolerance to insomnia, or simply cycling off stimulants. Either way, taking a break from caffeine never hurt anyone and if anything will make you a stronger person.

With that being said, lets take a look at the best caffeine free pre workout supplements you can take to stay on top of your goals!

How I Take Stim-Free Pre-Workout Supplements

I love taking regular pre workouts. But, every few months I always rotate to a caffeine-free option for at least 30 days. This allows me to cleanse my system from stimulants and better rely on my bodies natural energy pathways.

This may sound tough, but the new stimulant free options are amazing. Some, like OPUS even result in additional energy through natural vitamin mediated pathways.

For me, there is no strain when its that time to switch to stim free for awhile. In fact, I've noticed that my lean gains go up during these periods. I attribute this to all the BCAAs in these stim free versions as well as the better quality of sleep I get at night without caffeine in my system.

#3- Dymatize Xpand (caffeine free version) Pre Workout

Dymatize Nutrition recently released a stimulant free version of their muscle building pre workout Xpand. The caffeine free formula is power packed, containing the essential amino acids, nitric oxide boosters, and performance enhancers; just no caffeine! This product is an energizer as well as a muscle builder. If you are looking for a caffeine pre workout supplement that performs as hard as the rest, Caffeine free Dymatize Xpand is for you.

Things I love About These

My schedule is crazy! Due to this, you can see me in the gym at all hours. Its always a crap shoot trying to pre-plan. But hey, thank god for 24 hour fitness.

Because of this, my pre workout game used to completely decimate my sleep schedule when I went for a late night lift. I mean, maybe you can; but I cannot sleep at all 2 hours after taking a few hundred milligrams of caffeine. It just doesn't work.

Luckily, I have caffeine free versions as my back-up plan. Its not always the full batman, but hey - robin knows his stuff too.

#2 Magnum Opus: True Caffeine Free Formula

Magnum Nutraceutical's Opus pre workout is a stand alone stimulant free formula meant to deliver results. The ingredients deliver pump, creatine power, and endurance to allow any athlete to increase their performance. The best part about Opus, is the fact that it isn't a 'caffeine free version'; its the real deal. This is their stand alone product, not a caffeine free mock-up.

BSN's Caffeine-Free Version of N.O Explode

While you only get 20 servings, BSN makes a caffeine free version of N.O Explode 2.0. While it does not contain caffeine, it does still contain a multi-form creatine complex and excellent nitric oxide stimulators. For someone lifting heavy weights in the gym, N.O Explode caffeine free is a great option. For the runners however, other options would be preferred.

What to expect from a stim-free pre workout supplement

If you are used to pre workouts, then you are likely curious about how the experience differs between caffeine and caffeine free pre workouts.

I find that with regular caffeinated pre workouts, they really charge you in the beginning of your lift. Stimulant-free pre workouts tend to work differently.

When you take a stim-free pre workout, you should expect your energy and power to build up during your lift.

Basically, instead of charging you up from the start... A stim-free pre workout will build you up slowly and keep you from tiring out as fast as you would without supplementing.

Do Not Fear the Change

I understand that this feels like a big leap. After all, guys are constantly complaining about not getting enough energy out of their pre workout, so what's going to happen when you switch up to one that doesn't have any caffeine?

Well, just remember that these supplements were designed from the beginning to be without caffeine. This is how its meant to be. Give it a try - you might hate it, but you also might love it. This could be the switch-up that helps you build a ton a muscle. A game changer.
