Ceylon Cinnamon - Why You Should Use It?
When we speak about cinnamon, the first thing that strikes our mind is its aroma. Of course, it is known for its aromatic properties, but it is equally well-known for its herbal properties that have incredible health benefits. Apart from the health benefits derived from it, it is also known for its weight loss benefits.

- Korintje Cinnamon
Cassia, Saigon and Korintje cinnamon are classified under cassia cinnamon because they are very similar to each other except Ceylon cinnamon.
Cassia cinnamon is not considered good for the liver health because of the presence of high levels of coumarin (a toxic chemical compound) in it. Only Ceylon cinnamon has a low degree of coumarin and is the best among all the available varieties.
Ceylon cinnamon is grown in Sri Lanka, Seychelles and Madagascar. Also, known as true cinnamon, it is an extremely expensive spice and is not used very often. Unlike cassia family, it is safe to take in high doses compared to cassia.
It may not be easy to find a Ceylon cinnamon in the grocery store, and not many people can differentiate between cassia and Ceylon varieties. As people are aware of the benefits derived from the cinnamon they buy it and include it in their daily diet. As most of the stores deal with cassia, unknowingly, they offer high dosage of coumarin to their bodies. Intake of cassia cinnamon actually makes them sicker than providing real health benefits to them.
If you cannot differentiate between Ceylon cinnamon and Cassia cinnamon, you may ask the store owner to provide you with Ceylon cinnamon or may seek for it in any of the online stores that deal with it.
