Charcoal And Its Natural Healing Properties
In a standard medical kit you would not expect to see charcoal. But many people in the past realised just how useful charcoal is in everyday life. Its medicinal properties are used today in hospitals, and many doctors will prescribe it for a variety of ailments. Charcoal is obtained from burnt wood or vegetation, and one of its main uses is the fact that it absorbs toxins.
This is especially useful when someone has digested many different types of poison. The actual type of charcoal used today is called Activated Charcoal. This differs from the usual charcoal in the fact that it doesn't have any carcinogens. With normal charcoal, for example burnt toast it has chemicals that can be detrimental to your health. With Activated Charcoal it is a natural wood charcoal that is sold in many health stores and chemists.
I first discovered the properties of charcoal a few years ago. I was suffering with stomach problems caused by a thyroid problem. And nothing seemed to help. I went into my local health shop and the assistant pointed me in the right direction. I bought some charcoal tablets and I found that they worked so well I always keep some in my medicine cupboard now. As well as for personal use, I actually helped save a guys life a few years ago thanks to charcoal. He was an acquaintance of my son. He came around the house one night and was in a terrible state. For reasons I won't go into, he told me he had taken an overdose of Aspirin. I put him on the sofa and called the ambulance.
At that point I didn't believe he had taken aspirin. I had a horrible feeling that he had swallowed paracetamol, which, if not treated would affect his liver. So I went over to the bench where he had been sitting outside, and foraged through the bin. And there it was, an empty bottle of paracetamol. While waiting for the ambulance I made him swallow a handful of charcoal. When the medics arrived I told them what I had done and they said that was the best thing I could have done. That's exactly what the hospital would do. My quick thinking gave him those extra minutes to recuperate. So charcoal is a great healer for poisonous substances.
Medicinal uses of Charcoal
The uses of charcoal are many. Doctors and paramedics actually keep charcoal in their surgeries and ambulances. This way they can administer it straight away. As you can see, there are lots of ways charcoal is used as a healing or cleansing medical product.
- Soaking up poisons caused by an overdose of paracetamol or medicine.
- Disinfecting wounds.
- To help kidney and liver patients soak up and filter toxins from the blood.
- Helping to purify blood transfusions.
- Treating dysentery, diarrhea and heartburn.
- Treatment of spider bites, snake bites and some insects.
- Intestinal Infections.
Charcoal for Home use.
Not only does charcoal soak up gas that builds up in the stomach after eating beans, and other gassy foods, it also gets rid of the bacteria that causes the gut to contract. Its also really good if you are of a nervous disposition and you suffer with stomach problems because of this. Going on long journeys can also make you bilious as well as either suffering from seasickness or flying. Charcoal will settle your stomach and make you feel much more balanced and calm.
You can also use charcoal as a poultice. Whether its for healing a wound, or drawing out the poison from a splinter wound, charcoal is the most natural and cleansing thing to use.
To make a poultice.
Place two teaspoons of charcoal powder into a cup. Mix with warm water and stir until it is a paste. Place the mixture onto a warm piece of gauze or bandage and wrap the whole thing up with a plastic bag or wrap. Leave it overnight or for 12 hours and then change it.
Poisonous Substances that Charcoal Absorbs
Always call for medical assistance if you or someone you know has taken any of these substances.
Charcoal will help to save a life, but hospital treatment is recommended.
This is only a small list of substances that Charcoal can cure. There are many more poisons that charcoal will help to eliminate.
Do NOT use Charcoal for the following.
- Caustic Alkalies
- Any forms of Mineral Acids
- Boric acid
Ingestion of these substances will definitely need medical assistance. Always call an ambulance straight away. Never try to help the person at home.
Charcoal For Health
Charcoal can be taken regularly to keep your system clean. Don't take it everyday if you suffer from constipation. Also take note of whether you can use it with your other medicine. If you take medication, only use charcoal 2 hours before or after your dose. Otherwise it will absorb the medicine as well as any toxins.
Charcoal can be taken as 1 teaspoon in a glass of water, or as I prefer, charcoal tablets. These are the most convenient way to take them. For general health take a small teaspoon daily unless constipation occurs. if you are suffering from flu or colds take one glassful 4 times a day, and if you are suffering from any illness that is long term you can take it up to 8 times a day. But always consult your Doctor before taking charcoal tablets or powder.
Taking charcoal daily or weekly will clear your body of toxins and make you feel healthier. Especially if you suffer with stomach problems. Just remember to take any other medication 2 hours before or after. It's a real must for the medicine cabinet. It can help digestion, get rid of gas, help with cuts, bruises and poison spots. And its also a great blood purifier too. But the most important thing about charcoal, is that it can save a life.
