What’s Cleveland Clinic And Mayo Clinic Like? Information and Comparison: My Experience

The Mayo Clinic

The Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic Differences

There is a difference between Cleveland Clinic and Mayo clinic and If you are needing to decide on whether you should go to the Mayo Clinic for health issues or the Cleveland Clinic, I would like to give you my perspective. This is clearly my experience and my review, and I am not giving any suggestions on where you should go for treatment for your medical condition.

Differences in the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Each are great places for care, but like everything, they are different and separate entities. Read my information I have supplied and this way if you are contemplating either one, it may help you.

I am giving you some information if you ever need to go to Cleveland, Ohio for the Clinic or just to go visit. Unfortunately, I went to the Clinic, but I would like to share some of my experiences as to where you can stay and some attractions that were nearby if you are wanting to have fun.

I can tell you that Rochester didn't have as many attractions as Cleveland. Most people that are in Rochester either work there, or are sick. The people going in and out of both places is phenomenal and there is every ethnicity that you can even ever imagine. It's literally crazy to look around and see basically every race known to man, walking by you. It's heart wrenching to think all the people, including me, who are begging for help; and to be honest, they really don't even have to speak a word because their faces say it all. It seems that the Clinics are almost your lost hope.

What is Cleveland Clinic Like

The Cleveland Clinic is located right downtown Cleveland. I never drove, as my husband did all the driving, but I do know that it was a little confusing at first, if you don't know the area. A lot of different buildings as there are a lot of different parts of the Clinic you may need to be at.

I must say, that parts of the Clinic are just beautiful. You get the sense as you walk in, that this is the place where you need to be if you need help. Maybe it was just a personal feeling, but as you look at all the people that were there, they all had that same look. Honestly, I prefer Cleveland over Mayo. Again, that's from my experience, as I'm not suggesting you go to one place over the other for health problems, I don't want that on my shoulders.

What is Mayo Clinic Like

Now, the difference between them both from my perspective is that Mayo seems to be very well organized for one. You also get the sense of this is where you need to be. I don't mean to confuse you. Mayo is so professional looking and organized, that you feel like you are a number, and not a person. I have never seen anything so organized in my life, right down to getting the blood work done. You can read more about the Mayo Clinic. Cleveland, is also very professional looking, but it has the feel of you being a person, and not a number.

Does Mayo Clinic Keep You Until They Find Out What's Wrong?

The other thing with Mayo is that your stay up there is usually 2 to 3 days at a time as they run tests all day long, have you come back the next day for more, and so on. Then, you travel back home to find out you have to go back up for another 2 or 3 days for more tests, stay in your motel/hotel, and repeat.

With Cleveland, I didn't get that so-called run around. (Again, this was My own personal experience) If they can't figure it out, you don't travel all the way back home, to come back at a later date for more tests. They really try hard the first time so you don't have to go back and forth.

We all want information on the best and most reasonable places to stay especially if we need to be there a few days. These are purely my experiences and would like to pass them to you.

At the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, we stayed at the Kahler Inn and Suites. This was a little pricey however you are only there for a few days at most at one time unless you are going for surgery or therapy of course. This was a few dollars higher than other because of the location. You could literally take the elevator down to the bottom level and it was underground walk to the clinic which made it extremely convenient especially if you were up there during the winter months.

For longer stays, I suggest staying at one of the Inns as they usually have discounts for week long stays. We ended up at Extended Stay America and were very pleased. Had a kitchen, microwave, oven, refrigerator. Very nice and was about 40 dollars a day. That is a weekly rate, and it is even cheaper if you stay longer. Shuttle picked us up even which made it even nicer. Again, make sure you ask for the MAYO RATE.

Hotels That Are Close To The Cleveland Clinic

They do have Hotels/Motels that give you the Cleveland Clinic rate, so be sure to always ask for that if you are staying up there for any amount of days. I highly recommend the Hilton Garden Inn. It's only a few miles from the Clinic and it has everything you pretty much need. A restaurant, a shuttle, a pool, etc. The rates are on the Clinic rates as well. Our stay was about $89 a night. It's a 3 star Hotel, but doesn't make you pay out the nose for decency and accommodations. Again, any hotel you stay at, ask for the Clinic rates. Depending on the hotel, the savings could be anywhere from 10 dollars to 150, it just depends, like everything else, their hotel occupancy, etc.

Across the street from the Hotel is the Cleveland Stadium. My family went over to watch the Browns game, and I could see them walking across the street.

I had the absolute most disappointing trip to Cleveland Clinic and will never go back. Very disorganized, set me up with wrong doctors, had to stay extra day and they still didn’t get me into see correct doctor. Left there and drove over 9 hours home with no answer or treatment! I’m a nurse and was and still am disgusted over the patient care I received!

I have been back and forth for three years now with this chronic chough, LPR, and autoimmune diseases. Every test in the world from Pulmonary, heart, Lung and esophageal, plus autoimmune have been done, with the diagnosis of mild LPR, and maybe asthma. The specialists send me to and fro from one to another without a treatment plan to abate my issues. Which Cleveland clinic do I go to?

I'm so sorry to hear all the problems that you are having. I had Gastro to the mayo clinic and then ultimately to Cleveland where I had better luck. Have you gone to the Cleveland clinic website? You can search for a condition and it pulls up all the specialists that treat that symptom or disease. I would continue searching as there is someone out there for your wife. Don't ever stop giving up and she shouldn't if she sees some sort of progression leading her to a little bit better health

What took you to the clinic/ mayo ? My wife has had lupus for 20 years and sjogrens now she is having problems with here gains they call is vascilitise I am sure I am misspelling these names.. sorry. This is new problem is causing abdominal pain along with many other problems. She has been part of the Cleveland clinic satilight branches for years. But we are really tired of the run around and no real answers others than you have Lupus and to deal with it. At 52 she is ready to throw in the towel and that's not acceptable to me. I just need a place that will help or at least try to help...

I can't recommend you where to go as I'm not a MD. If you go to the cleveland clinic site., you can find areas of expertise that you are needing. It never hurts to get additional opinions if you Aren't getting answers. It's your body and your life....don't mess around and keep fighting. There's a doctor out there, you just have to keep praying and searching.

Good luck to you! Mayo clinic motels also offer mayo clinic rates.

Oh, forgot to ask. Do you have a comparison of the different Mayo clinics? I've not ever read a comparison on the differences between them. I'd like to go to an open minded clinic.

But I think I'm closest to either the Rochester and Florida Mayo Clinics.

Though, I'd probably need cheap transporation from the airport to the clinic.

What clinic do you think is better with regards to diagnosing rare, chronic, and system illness? Like over a decade old dealing with problems?

I have alot of symptoms, and it's pretty rare because it is so disabling. But I've been going to random doctors for years, and first 5 years doctors said I was "too young" to be ill. Then they started saying it was in my head or they'd run one test and say they've done all they can do.

It's gotten so bad that I need to go to some clinic that will figure it out instead of coming up with excuses to do nothing.

So which clinic do you think would be better for me? It's my understanding Mayo isn't very open minded? i.e. they go by the book and look for "text book" cases. In which most illnesses aren't text book.

And can you recommend any other of these types of clinics? I like the group approach rather than the going to random doctors who just tell you to go somewhere else.

And do you know if the Mayo clinic offers any lodging options like cots or something? I'd have to do it cheap. Thanks

I found your article interesting, when relating your own experiences at the Cleveland Clinic. I have never been a patient at the Mayo Clinic, but I have been a patient at the Cleveland Clinic for over 20 years. I had many years of heart problems, so I went to the Cleveland Clinic because they are the best in the world for heart problems. I ultimately had a heart transplant, so I can easily say that I have had a wonderful relationship with this great institution.
