Creative Ways to Announce You're Pregnant

Updated on March 9, 2014

Announcing Pregnancy

Whether you've been trying for months or years, or if it was unexpected; pregnancy is very exciting for everyone involved!

Immediately, you start thinking of baby showers, and little baby blankets, the list goes on!!

So when the test shows positive for a baby, you will no doubt want to share it with the world! But how? Much like the future birth announcements, you want the moment to be special, and memorable!

Here are a few unique and creative ways to announce your pregnancy to your husband, to your family and to your friends. And if you're really creative, you'll figure out how to get it on camera!

When do you think is the best time to announce you're pregnant?

First Things First - When To Tell

Most women do not inform family or friends about their pregnancy until they are somewhere between 8 to 12 weeks. This may vary for you if you're either a really good (or really bad) secret keeper.

It also depends on whether or not you are comfortable making excuses for not having that glass of wine or why your tummy might be a little more round. Everyone deals with this differently, so don't feel bad if you can't take the pressure and you spill the beans!

Some people feel the urge to tell family and friends early because even if something happens to the baby, they want the support of friends and family to get them through. Others would rather keep the information to themselves until they are 'in the clear'.

Modern Technology Announcement

With cell phone, email and Facebook technology, it's not hard to see why telling all your friends and family could be very easy (and very modern). You could choose to take a photo of yourself with your ultrasound and share on your Facebook page.

Of course, you'll want to tell your closest family and friends first or they might be a little hurt that they found out when the rest of the world did.

Want to make this more personal? Just send the photo of you via text to your direct family members and say, "You'll be getting a clearer photo in about 9 months!" They will love the big surprise and that they can save this photo for years to come.

The Onesie Announcement

The onesie announcement is a creative way to announce that you are pregnant. There are many ways to work this one, it all depends on who you are announcing to. Either way in the end, these onesies are a great little baby gift for the recipient to use one day!

If you are announcing to your husband, you can purchase a onesie from his alma mater (high school, college, doesn't matter) and present it in a gift bag, or as a surprise under his covers. Either way he'll be surprised!

If you are announcing to family, you can use a onesie that is customized with that person's title like, "I've got the world's greatest grandma" or "my auntie loves me".

On Camera Announcement

If you want to be able to remember your first baby announcement for years to come, then why not get it on tape? There are tons of creative ways people have gotten their big baby announcement recorded, in stealth mode. Of course, you don't want them to be suspicious so there are ways to announce without raising red flags.

Set up your family for a nice photo (but instead, make it a video). When you've got the right angle, you can tell everyone '1, 2, 3 - say 'baby'!!!' and hold your tummy and have your husband point to your belly as well. They'll get it, and you'll get them!

More Camera Opps

You can also get them on camera other ways. Such as hiding the camera. This is good if you have the room to yourself before everyone arrives, and if you have enough 'film' to have a long clip of video.

One last way to get it on tape is to distract them with something like a letter or a video (or a gift). The video below shows a couple that wrote a 'birthday list' and gave it to her parents. While they are busy opening and reading it, the husband films the whole thing. When the 'grandparents' figure out that the birthday list is full of items like 'crib, diapers, pacifiers' you will be able to catch their reaction.

Great ideas! It is such a special announcement and her husband told all the rest of the family in a cute way. They painted a tee-shirt to say "Baby" with a little dot and arrow. He "presented" her with the shirt in our family meeting so that she could hold it up. It was fun, and very surprising. We thought they were moving cross-country, so a happy announcement rather than a sad announcement. :)

My friend already had a baby boy so to tell her family she was pregnant again, she had her parents help her son open a present at Christmas. The gift was a onesie that said " big brother ". What a cute hub.

Great hub idea! Another idea I like for announcing relatives who are long-distance is making a video or a photo montage, and holding up signs with words telling the story and the big news. The video can be shared with just close family before it's shared with the rest of the world.
