Scourge of The Earth
Please don't do Drugs
To begin i must give a prelude to establish my comments.I grew up very poor and came from a family that seemed like a common family, as many in America. I was the youngest of 12 children .Our family was composed of seven boys and 5 girls. My oldest brother was a heoin addict, and my other family members struggled with alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana.
Growing up I was very bright child who loved to read and was very curious about life, and always questioned why people did the things they they did. Whatever i didn't understand, I asked whom I thought knew the answer, What does this mean and Why would someone do this if it was harmful to them? Was the question that always perplexed me.
As in life, you later learn that most people don't really think about the repercussions that happen when they make such decisions. The concept of "cause and effect" is usually the farthest thought in their mind when doing something such as making a decision that may affect them for the rest of their life. when you are a child you learn not to steal, for you will get in trouble.
The major thing that is stressed in schools today is " Don't do Drugs". To address this topic you have to take on the many faces of Drugs , the causes of Drug abuse and the repercussions of Drug use, not only to your own well being, but the harm that is inflicted on family friends and society in general.
I feel I can write about this subject for I was addicted to the drug of Cocaine for 10 years . When i was 12 years old I learned how to drive a car because my older brother was a junkie, who used to put a needle full of Heroin in his arm and taught me how to drive him around while he was in his heoin stupor. In one instance He came out of the restroom after shooting up and just collapsed on the floor and went into convulsions. This was a very traumatic experience to a 14 year old boy. My brother was very smart for a heroin addict. he would break into doctor's cars in broad daylight while the doctor was in his office. I learned from this that crime, isn't always done in the shadows. When you do something illegal and you do it when people least expect it, like right in front of their face, you have the best chance of getting away with it. Why? Because most people don't expect a this from normal reasonable people.
But the first thing you should know about people that are drug abusers are what they are not. They are not normal reasonable people, they are a different animal now. They are not the son, daughter, husband or wife that you knew. They have changed into a person who has no concept of feelings anymore. The only love they have is for that next high, that next feeling of euphoria, and they will do things that they would never do before becomong addicted to drugs. The drug abuser will lie to your face, steal from you, rob you blind. Why? One cannot understand this but a person who has been there easily can relate this to anyone.
A drug abuser takes advantage of your sympathy, to a drug abuser especially a person who is addicted to narcotics for they are the most extreme abusers. Your sympathy is viewed in their narcotic world as weakness, they want you to feel sorry for them, they view sympathy as a tool to win you over, as an excuse. A victim that most reasonable people would fell sorry for. Because they are now an animal, you are the prey. Most drug abusers use this tool very effectively on family members. Naive people who think that they have the power to change this person's life.
In reality you cannot change this person's life . Only they can change their life. The drug abuser plays a game of hide and seek . they will say all the right words to lure you into their victimization ploy. They will make you think that you are in control and will help them, but you are just falling into their trap.
The many faces of drug abuse range from " harmless" marijuana , to Crack cocaine which to me is the deadliest scourge on this planet and the most dangerous of all the drugs that plague society.
The main reason that most people start out with marijuana is curiousity, which brings the reason most young people start out doing any drug. They are curious as to what effect it has on you . the biggest effects are escape and euphoria. Problems at home, at school, peer pressure, in their mairraige, all of these are what makes people do drugs.
Priscription drugs are one of the most readily available , because they are usually found in the homes of most American familys. it is a variety of medicines that have been prescribed legally but were never disposed of and remained in the family medicine cabinet. Only when you must go out on the street to get your drugs does the whole perspective of drug abuse become very dangerous. The drug abuser then starts to learn the "rules of the jungle". they learn to manipulate, to lie , to cheat to steal, for the drugs of their choice. the women learn that they can exchange sex for drugs. the men learn that they can exchange guns, jewelry, anything of worth to the dealer and yes, sometimes for even the men, sex also.
If you have a family member who is abusing drugs don't try to help them, for they will only take advantage of you. The best advice i can give to you to you is give them a good talking to, tell them how they have hurt themselves and their family, throw them out on the street. It may sound harsh, but unless you under stand that that they are the only one who can do anything about their problem is them, you will only be enabling them. I have been clean now for 2 years and if it wasn't for my family support and my writing as a support mechanism, who knows where I would be. quitting drugs is a only achieved with will power, I hear people say they must go through programs that cost money and all the other excuses that are used by drug abusers. Drug abusers only go through programs when they face time in prison or jail. the system requires it as a means of making money. I'm not saying that these programs don't work , they have helped many people I'm sure. So Let me tell you from a person who knows what drug addiction is .
Drug addiction is a day to day war with your own mind, which looks for excuses to fall back into your old lifestyle , a low down drag out fight with the devil that is your sub-concious. When you are down that devil tempts with the thoughts of euphoria, escape from the reality of real life. You are never truly done with drug addiction untill the lord calls your name. You are addicted for the rest of your life here on this earth. With faith, will power and resolve to stay drug free anyone can who was addicted to the scourge of drugs can make it just another day. thats all I ask of the lord , not for a miracle but to just get me to tommorow.
