Diet and Underactive Thyroid – Is Thyroid Weight Loss Impossible

Updated on January 16, 2011

Thyroid Weight Loss – Is It Impossible?

Trying to lose weight with an underactive thyroid can be a battle, to say the least. Too many people have the mindset that if their thyroid isn't functioning to the fullest that it is impossible to lose the weight, but that is simply not true.

For years. I heard many people say that they were overweight because they had a thyroid problem. To be honest, I always thought that was just an excuse, because so many people would say it. Fast-forward years later, now I know personally that, that wasn't an excuse.

I never had a weight problem until a few years ago. You guessed it, I now have thyroid problems. Along with probably 20 to 30 million other people in the world. It is astounding how many people today are developing thyroid problems. There is much needed research going on now, however it isn't getting solve fast enough for thyroid sufferers.

Are You Doomed To Stay Overweight?

You may be confused by all of the information or lack of information that you have given up the dream of being your ideal weight ever again. Too often people with underactive thyroid are led to believe that weight gain is a problem you will just have to live with the rest of your life.

Most people give up and just accept that that's a part of having an underactive thyroid. Why wouldn't they feel that way when they've probably heard that it's impossible to lose it a million times. You've probably been there to you, you may be there right now. Maybe you've tried different diets and none seem to work. At least they don't work for any length of time. Before you know it, you are right back where you started from. After this happens several times, most people just give up trying. Why be miserable for a month or two, when it seems to never work. That is the frame of mind that most dieters will end up in eventually.

Have You Been Misinformed about Thyroid Weight Gain?

You may be among the many people that have been misinformed about thyroid problems. You're probably thinking that you will never be able to shed those unwanted pounds. I want to encourage you not to give up. I know for a fact that it's not impossible. I am proof of that!

I'm not going to lie to you and tell you that it's easy, but it's not as hard as you may think. I found that by making changes, little by little, it made a big difference. I think that's why most people fail at diets because they try to make such drastic changes all at once. A major key to being successful is making changes that you can live with every day. Don't try to disrupt your whole life with major changes all at once. Starting with small things first, by that I mean doing the things that would be easiest for you first. Start by adding some foods to your meal plan that are good for your thyroid. Then work your way up from there gradually increasing the difficulty.

You definitely need help with your losing weight, it's not something that most people can tackle on their own and be successful with it. You need a good diet plan to follow to help keep you on track. Otherwise, you will probably fall back into your old habits and ways.
