Do you know a stressed caregiver?

Updated on December 16, 2008

Help ease caregiver stress

As a care giver for my mom this article caught my attention..even though now she is in a safe facility, I go and get her or visit dailey for a couple of hours. We tend to forget to care for ourselves and here are some clues:

If you find yourself with- out enough time to take care of your own needs, you could be putting yourself and your health in danger. By neglecting your own physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Make sure you visit your physician on a regular basis. If you are suffering from exhaustion, stress, sleeplessness (I am), and changes in your appetite or behavior you should think twice about this and don't ignore the facts.

If you don't want to burnout, get depressed and resent the person you care for , you need to remember You can't do everything and accepting assistance from others is a good idea.

Talk to others about how you are feelings. Even though you may think no one understands what you are going through it will only cause you to feel isolated and emotionally neglected. I try to find the humor in some of the things we do.

Like when she mistakes what I say..cause she won't wear her hearing aides. "you want to go see the bear?" When I ask if she likes my hair?

Here is a Caregivers stress dailey check-up

How many of these signs have I had today?

Denial...Anger...Social withdrawal...Anxiety...Depression...Exhaustion...

Sleeplessness....Irritability...Lack of concentration...Health problems

Whenever stress is a concern, consult your doctor, and contact the Alzheimer's Assoc. for information and support. 1-800-272-3900 or

      Thank You for your comment...

Well though it is hard to get away there are ways....hire a caregiver to come in...even if for a day....there are also daycare places that will give you say 4-5 hrs, once in awhile for just YOU time....It is alright and even better...because your loved ones feel what you feel...frustration to happiness...

It can be pricey, all will help and it can be free or covered by SS...but there are all sorts of ways...Church helpers, support groups..the County nurses..the  Lord will provide...Trust and Believe...and God Bless you my dear.....G-Ma :o) Hugs

      Some considerable points to ponder.

Thankfully we are not in that position as yet.

      Thank you
