A very straight to the point answer of the question that 'why are my joints popping' is simply due to a fluid surrounding your joints called synovial fluid, which works as a lubricant between the two bones and serves to reduce friction whenever a joint movement takes place. The fluid contains several gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide. Whenever you hear a crack or a pop sound it just might be these gases escaping and creating such sounds.
Another reason why your joints might be making such sounds is due to the movement of ligaments and tendons. A tendon changes its position whenever a body movement takes place with your ligaments tightening over your joints. A snap sound can be heard when the tendon returns back to its original position. This is more frequent in ankle and knee joints.
Snapping joints and other symptoms
With the above-mentioned reasons, it is safe to assume that your joints are completely healthy. However, If you are experiencing some other symptoms with the cracking sounds then you might want to take a look into it.
