Symptoms And Causes Of Dry Mouth

Dry mouth is an abnormal dryness of the mucus membranes in the mouth. Which can happen when there isn't enough saliva or the composition of the saliva in the mouth.

Saliva plays a very important role to the mouth such as; keeping the mouth moist, protecting teeth from tooth decay, prevent infections, poor nutrition, bad breath and helps heal sores in the mouth.

The symptoms of dry mouth are: painful tongue, feeling thirsty, bitter taste, cracked, painful lips, burning sensation, problems talking, eating and swallowing, difficulty in wearing full dentures and bad breath after sleeping.

Medications, diet, sinus problems and snoring can also lead to cavities, sore throat and periodontal disease.

Health conditions linked to dry mouth are: nasal congestion, diabetes, Sjorgen's syndrome, tobacco smokers, pregnancy, stress, anxiety or dehydration.
