Dukan Diet: The Revolutionary Approach

Updated on August 2, 2014

What is Dukan diet?

Doctor Pierre Dukan is a famous French nutritionist with more than 30 years of experience in studying the eating habits and healthy weight loss. He devised the Diet, also known as the French diet or diet of Paris, which gives incredibly good results. According to him, obesity causes several physiological factors. The conclusions of his research is that people who need to lose weight need quick and tangible results that will motivate them to continue. They also need clear objectives with predefined stages.

Dukan Diet is an enhanced version of the high-protein diet (PSMF), which is designed for obese people more than three decades. The Diet has been criticized as a diet that can be dangerous due to very strict guidelines. You can expect to lose three to five pounds a week. The diet consists of four distinct phases and the reason for this is to force the metabolism to consume fat for energy.

How does the Dukan diet works?

With this diet you can eat as much as you want and whenever you want. Diet is a high protein and low fat, this theory is based on the fact that carbohydrates raise blood sugar levels, which then drops dramatically, which causes hunger, craving for food and habit of nibbling on what was first found by the hand, and that are usually sweets. Proteins, on the other hand, reduce appetite and a body fat store is used for energy, which results in weight loss.

There are four stages Dukan diet
those who decide to go with this child must go through four stages.

Phases

Attack Phase: Only lean veal, beef, chicken (no skin), turkey (no skin), fish and shellfish, eggs, dairy products are also allowed. Greek fat yogurt with 0% , and fat plain yogurt. Fresh water is also needed. This phase should be followed for longer than 10 days, and in the first 5 days one should lose 3 to 5 pounds.

Phase Two: introduces non-chunky vegetables to eat every other day with a protein food from the first phase. Every other day stays clean protein as in the first phase. Weight is now reduced and usually is about one pound for 7 days. No frying of butter or oil, it is best to cook the food. From vegetables should you should use one that has a low glycemic index such as lettuce, spinach, celery, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, radishes and broccoli. a large amount of fresh water is required. Follow this phase until you reach your desired weight.

Consolidation phase: one portion of fruit, two slices of whole-wheat bread and 150 grams of cheese is allowed each day. Two times a week, you are allowed to eat foods that contain starch, such as potatoes and rice. In addition, twice a week, you can eat a meal that you like, including wine and desert. But, the day after these meals of your choice, you can consume only protein. Consolidation phase should follow four days for every pound that you lost in previous phases. If you for example have lost 5 pounds phase should be followed 32 days.

Stability: Normal eating but continues with one day a week dedicated to just proteins. You need to stick to this consumption habit to prevent fat from returning.

High quality vitamins and minerals must also be taken of the tablet in order to maintain the proper intake of nutrition. Spices, moderate consumption of artificial sweeteners (coffee or tea) is allowed. Do not add sugar foods, fats and oils.

CONCLUSION
Dukan diet is a high protein weight loss plan that is sure to give results. Diet is a big-hit in Europe, there are no measurements of the amount of food that is consumed, but most of the people using this diet forget about stage four and physical activity, and so again there is an increase in weight.

Pros And Cons

Pros

In this diet you can eat as much as you want, which has a positive psychological effect on people. In other words, you will not be tempted to eat more just because they have strictly limited and distributed the meals. Losing weight is great in the beginning, but there are long periods of stabilization which will help a person learn to control his weight. This diet allows two meals without restrictions during the consolidation phase, which makes easier the moments for the family gatherings and an occasional habit of going to a restaurant with family and friends.

Cons

With so many proteins , it is necessary to drink a large quantities of water to avoid unpleasant consequences mentioned above – dry mouth , bad breath and constipation . Meat, fish and seafood are a lot expensive. Dukan diet is good for people who really enjoy the meat, but this diet is difficult to adapt for vegetarians. You may eventually reach saturation and boredom due to constant similar meal, especially if you need to lose a lot of weight (because the phase changes should be for months, and carbohydrates are included in the diet only when they reach the ideal weight). Before starting the Dukan diet is sure to consult with your doctor.
