The main things you can do to start preventing hypertension is to exercise, lose weight, don't smoke, don't abuse alcohol, and try to avoid high stress.

The Dash diet, The Mediterranean diet, and the South Beach Diet These diets have shown to help some people in some cases. The South Beach diet is different in that it starts as a very low carb diet. The other 2 are based on high intake of fruits and veggies, and lower intake of meats and fats. The reason that they help with hypertension is that they help you lose weight.

None of these diets are specifically set up to lower or cure high blood pressure, they work because they help lower body fat. Body fat around the abdomen is the most damaging to your heath, and raising your blood pressure.

There are several herbs that have shown positive results in lowering blood pressure. Cayenne is one that has shown positive results. One of the amino acids L-Arginine is said to help lower blood pressure, by helping your body produce more nitric oxide. There are several drinks and other mixtures on the market that help your body to produce nitric oxide.

The various diets above all do help in the studies that have been done. Some of the supplements also seem to help. It come down to most other diet and health related issues. You need to eat a healthy diet of plenty of fruit and veggies. The proper amount of good fats, and lean meat is also important to make sure you get enough protein in your diet.

The most important thing you can do right now is to not be overweight, eat a good diet, and get out and exercise.

      I'm interested with your article, i have hypertension, and i never try to use natural ways to lower blood pressure, i always use amlodipine (calcium chanel blocker ) and lisinopril, thanks for great article, today i got many information on hubpages.
