Tips For A Healthy Life Style

It's no secret that to live a healthy and happy lifestyle, we must take care of the most important piece of property we own, our bodies.

For decades, the human race has done the diet thing till we are blue in the face while emptying our wallets. We have exercised our brains out with all the new, updated, and improved exercise equipment and have joined thousands of health clubs only to end up visiting them an average of once a month, not to mention, we have invested in supplements that "guarantee to take all the weight off in 1 day!" Okay, so that latter is a little exaggerated, but I think you get the point.


So we ask ourselves, "Why are we still grabbing onto those gimmicks, diet plans, and exercise equipment while still managing to either retain the weight or put it back on after we have lost it?"
Even after losing the weight, why are we not as happy as we thought we would be? We look great, perhaps feel wonderful, yet, why are we not happy? What's missing?

Complex question yet a very simple answer: We forget that we are the ones in control of our own life, health, and happiness.

Now don’t get me wrong, having your own home gym or exercise equipment is wonderful, if it gets used, and belonging to the local gym is fabulous, if you go more than once a month, or following a diet/meal plan that suits you is terrific if you stick to it.
The good news is that if you don't need to have a home gym or belong to a spa or local gym.
The secret... (well it isn't really a secret, but sometimes we just plain forget).. is adding exercise to our daily routine. It can be as simple as a brisk walk around the block. The point is.. get up and MOVE!
Many people are living a happy and healthy lifestyle. So what is their secret? They are embracing life while taking control of it! Isn't it time you took control of your life and embraced it with a healthy, happy outlook?

When you have no physical activity in your life, you will be prone to:

People of all ages, sizes, shapes and abilities will benefit from daily exercise. The more exercise you do, the more health benefits you will reap.

Regular Health Checkups

Your age, sex and family history determines what type of tests will occur during your regular check up with your doctor. This may include:

  • Evaluation of your overall health with tests for blood, urine, hearing, and vision.
  • Weight assessment
  • Blood pressure and cholesterol levels
  • Consultation regarding your diet and exercise regimen along with any issues concerning tobacco, drug, and alcohol use.
  • Immunizations (including booster shots)
  • Assess your risk of certain diseases you are prone to, such as diabetes or cancer with proper screenings.
  • Testing for STD’s and HIV (Depending on your age and sexual lifestyle)
  • Screen testing for colorectal cancer (Testing should begin at age 50 -or- younger if it runs in your family)
  • Discussion and testing for depression and/or mental health


Regular Dental Checkups = Healthy Teeth and Gums

One of the most important things you can do in enjoying a healthy lifestyle is to maintain a healthy mouth. This requires 3 basic reminders:

  1. Regular brushing after every meal and once in the morning and before you go to bed
  2. Flossing after every meal
  3. Periodic cleanings and checkups with your dentist

Poor dental hygiene can produce gum disease, cavities and other infections that can have a greater effect on your overall health. Ignoring oral problems have been known to lead to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, premature birth, osteoporosis, and even Alzheimer’s disease.

      Great information, I remember reading in a magazine that the only thing apart from eating healthily is exercise, it said just a walk twice a week, or even around your home doing the chores is better than nothing, really great layout too, wonderful! voted up! nell

      It is so important for people to understand that when you want to get healthy.... it is a lifestyle change. If they don't make the change permanent they will never reach goal or they will always continue to put it back on. I am a firm believer of eating that brownie if I want it... but only doing it in moderation! Otherwise when my will power breaks... well people better stay out of my way! Great hub and great tips!

      Hi Lisa ~ this is great. Recently I have been thinking so much about what I need to change in my life to get and stay healthier. These are great tips. Just a few days ago, I finally went to the dentist which I haven't for a long time (ever since I lost my insurance). I was actually proud of myself for making the appointment and going and paying for it. To me, it was a step in the right direction. Now if I could only do many of the other tips. For me, the next "feel good, take care of yourself" thing is to get a hair cut. I know, sounds stupid but it really helps motivate me on to other healthy things.

      great article. My body use to tell me what is wants, including exorcise. It still quickly rejects those things it doesn't want. Most people don't have this.

We all have our issues no matter what they may be; health, family, financial, etc. I do believe that by keeping ourselves as healthy as possible, taking one day at a time, and doing some form of exercise every day will help us take care of our daily struggles head on with a little more ease and confidence in ourselves.
