Are You An Actual Empath or Simply Feeling Empathy?

Good Energy

Empath: An Empath is someone who understands the other person's circumstances, point of view, thoughts and feelings and also experiences the emotions.

Empaths may experience the same emotions of someone they are close to.

They may feel collective emotions, like mass fear when global scale events occur.

The Empath literally feels the energy that is being projected and dominates the space.

Empathy: The ability to understand another person’s circumstances, point of view, thoughts, and feelings. When experiencing empathy, you are able to understand someone else’s internal experiences.

Hula Hoop

Sometimes it is difficult to discern when we are imposing our own story on a person or actually feeling the emotions they are experiencing. Most people feel empathy for those experiencing trials, tribulations and troubles.

Empathy or Empath? It is a conundrum.

We all have our personal comfort zone, or "hula hoop", to quote a good friend of mine.

The hula hoop defines the area around our physical bodies we want most people to stay out of. The size of the hula hoop varies and is dependant on situational circumstance.

Your hula hoop may be as big as a house one day and pinching your pinky the next.

A person sporting a big smile and and cheery hello might be wearing a close fitting and rigid hula hoop.

Another person may appear reserved and quiet, yet have a very wide, loosely defined hula hoop.

Personal space cannot be seen by the naked eye but to someone with even a small bit of emotional depth perception can feel it. When you enter someone's personal space inadvertently or on purpose, the energy can be felt immediately if you are receptive to it. I know right away if my presence is causing a reaction to another human, be it good or not so good. I have passed too close to virtual strangers on the street on occasion and almost recoiled at the'get out of my space' energy. I am reminded frequently, that we live in a world with many troubled souls.

We need to pray for those people.

It's all in one's perception.

Empath, Empathy Either/Or

A woman I was acquainted with through mutual friends passed away a few months ago. I hadn't known her for long. She had many friends that held her in high esteem. She was a soul helper.

I never got to know her well but when I did visit with her we connected with an alternate consciousness. She knew without needing to hear words. I believe she was an Empath.
Her energy was dense but her hula hoop was very large and loosely defined. Circumstance dictated that I was in her presence regularly. Although her energy was kind and loving, it was also thick, almost viscous at times. I was trying to sort out some personal intercommunication issues I was having in my life at the time . A viscous energy mixing with a vacuous energy. The lessons I learned were absorbed through proximity more than by my own personal awareness.
I believe she learned all the lessons she set out to learn on this trip to this realm of existence. I don't think she'll be back on Earth in any form.
She has moved to the next level of awareness, out in the Faraway.

The Energy We Project

The expression you wear on your face can tell a lot about how you are feeling. Many of us have developed a 'social mask' for times when we do not want other people to know how we are feeling. It doesn't matter what someone does to try to alter their expression, an empath is going to know how you are truly feeling anyway. Not to form an opinion or judge, just simply to know.

Anger and sorrow and fear are three predominant emotions.

  • Anger is a projectile emotion.
  • Sorrow is an approachable emotion.
  • Fear is a complex emotion. Proceed with caution.

I sense more than see, energy fields around people.

Some people are far more dense than others.

I don't mean dense as in dim-witted, but dense in the way that their energy is very thick.

Thick energy indicates an 'old soul' to me. Most, but not all, old souls that I encounter, feel very settled.

There are also souls that, for whatever reason, have not been able to grasp the concepts of the lessons they need to learn. The density of their hula hoops is almost impossible to penetrate.

At some point we need to let go of the preconceived notions we have formed for our future and get on with the process of living for this moment, in this day.

There are no shortcuts in the unfolding and evolution of one's soul.

We need to do the work to get to the next level of awareness.

We need to be aware of each moment of each day, because that is all we have, the moment we are in, this one, now.

Empaths have my empathy.

Encountering and/or hanging on to negative energy is like radiation contamination seeping into one's psyche'. It damages you way more than it damages the person, place or thing that has caused the negative energy for you in the first place.

Live Your Best Life

Discombobulated Energy

World-wide catastrophic weather events are occurring with greater frequency in the 21st century.

The earthquakes(s) in Japan continue to be in focus in my thoughts.

The political structure and state on the planet also leave a great deal to be desired, contributing to mass energy disturbance and dissension, sanctioned death and violence.

There is a lot of unconscious and discombobulated energy in the air as we struggle to make sense of our rapidly changing world.

There are many world events occurring that we have no control over.

  • The leaking nuclear reactors in Japan are quietly leaking away regardless that the media has long ago moved on to more intriguing headlines.

There is little current media information available on the contamination levels on land and in the sea as a result of radiation leaking from the damaged Japanese reactors.

Collective global awareness is emerging but it has not gone viral. Yet. We are a far cry from unification at a level that we could actually make a difference in how our children and theirs and so on, will experience Mother Earth.

There are many events happening all over the planet.

Our World is changing.

There are many diverse and varied predictions that paint an unwieldy picture of impending doom and/or spiritual transformation.

I choose to believe that if we remain in conscious control of our mind, body and souls, we will all sail into the future with a greater awareness of what is.

Empathy for all things.

We need to create our personal vision of Utopia and live our best life.

Make it a great day.

What a beautiful hub! I smiled at your hula hoop definition. Very true. And I agree, a person's expressions are not always indicative of the size of their perceived personal space. In poetic form, you really summed up the true talent of an empath--the ability to see (or sense) far deeper than outward appearances. Voting up!

Very interesting outlook. I think I am an old soul, but definitely an Empath. I am always picking up energies around me that are struggling.

      Great Hub. Definitely shard!

Such an interesting hub! I think I may be an empath. I feel others' emotions in my body--and while that is sometimes useful, I also feel that yucky stuff that people carry as well--and that always feels awful--

      Hi ShyeAnne.

What an interesting hub and I have to agree with this one point you made in particular .!" Collective global awareness is emerging but it has not gone viral". You are so right on that. So many people who live in temperate climates think global warming is going to give them great summers and bemoan the fact that winters, and weather in general is getting more and more extreme, it´s like they don´t realise that this is an effect of global warming.

Great hub and thank you for sharing your thoughts and views.

I'm glad that I have lived as long and as well as I have. There are no personal regrets,

I have much empathy for those that will suffer fear and perhaps even death but they still have time to ready themselves.

It will be an adventure if nothing else.
