Omega-3 Fatty Acid Reduces Depression
Dr François Lespérance, Université de Montréal’s Centre de Recherche du Centre Hospitalier, conducted a study in Canada to test the effect of Omega-3 fatty acid on 400+ participants who suffered from depression for at least four-weeks.
It was determined at the end of the study, that those who suffered from depression, not related to anxiety disorders, had a major reduction in depression after supplementing with Omega-3 fatty acid.
The study was published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry.

The fish oil supplement given to the participants of the study contained high levels of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). In fact, they were given 1,050 milligrams EPA and 150 milligrams DHA per day for eight weeks.
The study's findings revealed that for those without anxiety disorders, the effect of supplementation with fish oil (high in EPA) was similar to that of antidepressant drugs.
