How to Erase Depression By Good Eats!
When you are sad and/or depress and even anxious, there are normally either two things that can happen: (a) stuff yourself with food or (b) you lose your appetite. Over-eating is bad, another bad is not eating at all. So what to do? Avoid being sad! Easier said than done? In a way, yes until you get informed. The right foods can take your sadness, depression and anxiety away. You will be surprised that it is easy to be happy and healthy by eating good, tasty food in moderation.
Endorphins are naturally produced by your body when you eat the right food. Having a good dose of endorphins makes you feel happy every day. Endorphins are your body’s natural means of coping with pain – it is like a natural pain reliever and is normally released during pleasurable activities. There are different kinds of endorphins. Example, serotonin is a kind of endorphin that is found mostly in the brain as well as in the gut. It is often referred to as the “happy” hormone because it helps regulate your moods and tempers. So, pick out foods that help produce endorphins. Google up foods that have a lot of vitamins, minerals and naturally help produce endorphins.
Listing down foods you like in detail will help you truly see what you are eating. From the list, you can figure out what are the provisions you have to chuck out and what victuals you really have to consume on a daily basis and as treats, regular and special. Whatever food you buy, specially canned goods, READ THE LABEL.
Living depression-free means less stress, less anxiety and be happy most of the time. From my experience, one way of getting over depression is having a balance diet, eating treats in moderation and NOT starving myself. The good eats are:
FRUITS: An enjoyable way to have good servings of fruits and vegetables is by making smoothies or shakes.
Apples – Rich in antioxidants and flavonoids. Apples are good for the heart; prevent many kinds of cancer. It is also rich in vitamin C which helps our immune system. Apples have phytonutrients that helps with the digestive tract and reduce respiratory diseases. This means, having a good tummy and breathing easy makes you feel fine and happy!
Bananas – Known for being rich in potassium content. Potassium is a mineral vital for nerve function. Bananas have natural sugars that are quickly absorbed into our bloodstream making us more energetic naturally. Also, bananas have starchy carbohydrate which puts you in a good mood minus the flaring tempers.
Citrus fruits – oranges, grapes and berries are very rich in Vitamin C which helps in the fast production of endorphins. The edible skin of berries contain either anthocyanin or anthocyanidin which gives its skin color and is also a certain kind of flavonoids that act as antioxidant and mood enhancer. But, due to high acidity in citrus and berries, limit your consumption the size that you would give to a toddler.
TREATS: A fast way to turn doldrums into cheerfulness is eat some treats. Treats are alright to munch in small amounts.
Chocolate – contains phenethylamine, which stimulates the endorphins and be a mood enhancer. Because of its very high sugar content, I eat chocolate when I am very much truly feeling too down in the dumps. It is a quick perk-upper.
Ice Cream – performs like chocolate, a special treat.
Muffins – are special treats and eat ONE ONLY or two maximum. I love my home-made banana and blue berry muffins.
Nuts – have Omega-3 fatty acids which are essential in lowering heart disease and positively affect the brain’s cognitive and behavioral function. Too much nuts can bind you, so eat only a small serving of it. I label it my regular treat because I eat it many times a week, like 2x or 3x a week.
MEALS: Eating your meals on time gives the nourishment your body needs. It also gives you the stability or regularity in your day-to-day routine, which leads to a more controlled life and of course, resulting in handling stress better and eliminating depression.
Pasta – it got everything. When you feel full, you feel content and satisfied. Pasta contains proteins, carbohydrates and nutrients from its veggies.
Chicken Noodle Soup – a very comforting meal. I love to eat this on rainy days and during the winter. The carrots in it are a good source of beta-carotene.
Stuffed Red Bell Peppers – is a good source of Vitamin A. It is very easy to make and a meal that will surely make you full and happy. There are other veggie meals combined with meat and starchy food that are tasty and filling.
Hopefully a Wanted Advice:
Conquering depression through food means, you have to watch what you eat. A balance diet is necessary for over-all health. You will have to be tough in your resolution in what you consume. Groan if you have to when you feel like you want to eat more. Cave in to your cravings, but make it JUST ONE then STOP. It will make you feel better that you are able to eat what you like BUT JUST ONE and it will also make you feel better that you are able to control yourself, your eating habits. Little by little, with good food, you will feel LOTS and LOTS better.
