Eustress and Stress, What's Good?

Usually, when we think of the word "stress" it has a negative meaning behind it. But stress is not always a bad thing at all. Eustress is a healthy stress that we experience which helps us with positive motivation. A few examples of this is that it is the stress that is present while swimming 20 laps, lifting weights on a set schedule of 5 sets and 10 reps or running on the beach. It can also be kind of stress that puts fire under our butts when we need to meet a deadline or reach a healthy, positive goal. This kind of stress promotes optimal psychological and physiological health. If you are in shape, have good eating habits, have good resilience and work well under pressure it is probably because eustress a lot.
Another kind of stress is distress. Distress is an unhealthy stress because it has worries and fears involved with it which can cause panic attacks, anxiety, depression and many other mental illness issues. If you walk around always worrying that things are not going to work out in a positive way you can become fearful and depressed. The stress that we face from the pressures from daily life need to be managed properly so that we can be healthy mentally and physically. Some of the stress management techniques include mindfulness, massage and positive meditation. Another thing that is important to combating distress is knowing the difference between eustress and distress. If you use mindfulness techniques and are in tune with the way you feel and what it is that is making feel the way you do you have a better chance of making positive choices that will help you not to be distressed. After all, some things are out of our control and we are better off accepting that fact and being in control of the things that are in our control.
