In my Search for Happiness
A Reason to be Happy
There are lots of reasons why we should be happy despite problems we suffer in life. The question is how to be joyful? How to manifest one of the fruits of the spirit by knowing and discovering our Loving Creator in order to serve him the right way?
DESIRES AND EFFORTS OF MANKIND TO ATTAIN HAPPINESS
Every normal person desires to be happy. Today's systems of things is offering nothing but terrorism, ethnic killings, crime, sickness and many more like it and are abounding in this world.
For example: “Terrorism,” says William J. Casey, director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, “has become a pitiless war without borders.”
As recently as 1971, fewer than two dozen persons a year died in terrorist attacks. By 1983 the number killed each year leaped to over ten thousand!
“Terrorism is proliferating almost as rapidly as AIDS,” wrote a former UN representative, Jeane Kirkpatrick
The quest for happiness and in the search for happiness, people become selfish, self-centered,hence, instead of achieving a lasting joy, they stabbed themselves with empty pursuits. The means to achieve their ends turns out to be the a striving after wind and guaranteed a deadly outcome.
Who commanded us to be happy?
The Creature of the Universe and all the things in it, whose divine name is Jehovah, wants us to be joyful, he gives us joy as one of the fruits of his holy spirit. (Galatians 5:22, 23) And what is joy? It is the delightful emotion caused by the expectation or acquisition of good. Joy is a state of true happiness, even exultation. This fruit of God’s holy spirit sustains us under trial. “For the joy that was set before him [Jesus] endured a torture stake, despising shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2) The disciple James wrote: “Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you meet with various trials, knowing as you do that this tested quality of your faith works out endurance.” But what if we do not know what to do about a certain trial? Then we can confidently pray for wisdom to deal with it. Acting in harmony with heavenly wisdom enables us to resolve problems or to cope with persistent trials without losing the joy of Jehovah.—James 1:2-8.
When happiness will be true and enduring
A positive and appreciative view of our blessings and God-given privileges is helpful. For instance, we can reflect joyfully on our privilege of rendering “sacred service” to the true God.
Happy despite persecution
A Witness working as headmaster in a school insisted on obeying “God as ruler rather than men,” declaring his neutrality toward the affairs of State. (Acts 5:29) He was badly beaten and was expected to be judged a traitor. Everyone thought he would be killed. The Witness, however, trusted in Jehovah. He remained faithful and explained the conscientious reasons for his stand. The result? He was acquitted and was returned to his hometown, whereupon the agents of the State who beat him apologized. This faithful Witness was taken back into the teaching profession and promoted to the position of inspector of schools!

"One newly baptized Witness related that once he returned from vacation to discover that all the portable equipment from his farm had been stolen. “By trusting in Jehovah,” he confided, “I was able to react differently from the way I would have reacted in the past.” While speaking to his neighbors, he calmly mentioned his loss.
“Later, some neighbors had problems. I left my work to go and help them out. A few days later, I received a phone call from one of them asking me to come over as soon as possible. Thinking he was in trouble again, I went over right away. He invited me to sit down and asked: ‘Do you know why I asked you to come? It’s about your equipment. I was the one who stole it. But when I saw your kind and friendly attitude, I said to myself, “I can’t do that to him!” And after you helped us out, I couldn’t sleep at night anymore.’” True Christianity in practice led to a good outcome."
