Faith In A Surgeon's Hands

Updated on January 2, 2015

In 2007, Greg's 23 month old Grandson was killed. At that point, he found a need to write about his family, crime, and local issues.

The drive from Lebanon, Missouri to Springfield, Missouri was a long quiet one. I glanced at my wife of 27 years and saw a tear rolling down her cheek. It was all finally sinking in. I pulled the car over and hugged her with all of my might.

Dr. Huang entered the room and looked at us. He shook his head. He couldn't understand why a 47 year old woman would need to have bypass surgery. She also had a weakened heart muscle from an earlier heart attack.

Diabetes was the first culprit. It attacks different parts of the body and with my wife, it was her kidneys. She does kidney dialysis 3 days a week for 4 hours a day. We took a trip to St Louis University Hospital to do tests for a new kidney. Tests determined there were blockages to her heart. An angiogram was performed and results showed that the right artery had 100% blockage; the center had several blockages ranging from 80-90%. The left artery, which already contained a stint, was blocked on both sides of the stint. We agreed, bypass surgery must be administered.

Jesus

I asked my wife if we could pray as we sat there on the side of the interstate. She nodded yes and we asked for her healing.

We talked about the people who, in their faith, will not trust doctors. Heck, Luke was a doctor and he wrote one of the Gospels. God can use anyone. God is omnipotent and can heal through a doctors hand.

We agreed and put our trust first in Jesus and secondly in Dr. Huang.

The surgery was performed at St Johns in Springfield, Missouri. It took 7 1/2 hours and ended up being three bypasses. Dr. Huang found that the right artery which was 100% blocked had grown it's own feeders to make up for not getting oxygen. He didn't have to do anything with it. He bypassed the others.

My beautiful wife was in I.C.U. for 2 days. At first, when she slept, she would stop breathing. Her lungs built stronger and they pulled out the tubes.

I am very happy to report to all of you that my love is still in the hospital, but she is doing great!! Please keep the prayers coming.

The next few months are quite important. She must have peace and tranquility.

God is good and he used Dr. Huang.

Please, if you have medical problems, or your child; seek medical help.

Yea God is a healing God, but let a doctor be a part of that blessing. You don't have any less faith in God by putting your trust in a doctor.

It's wonderful, Froggy, that your wife has come through the surgery with great success. I'm sure all of us celebrate your devotion and your optimistic outlook. I'm not a particularly religious person, but I know from personal experience that confidence and inner strength is vital. Obviously, you and your wife have that. I had a triple bypass and an aneurysm repaired in my heart in 2004 and have continued to enjoy the game of golf ever since. I also have diabetes. I'm sure that you and your wife have a bright future to look forward to despite the setbacks.

Bless you and may your healing be complete. Thank you for clarifying that science, particularly medicine, can co-exist with God; it is a viewpoint that needs to be vocalized more often.

I hope all is well with your wife. You sound like a wonderful person who really loves his wife. I am glad that you brought up the fact that we can believe in God, common sense should tell you that God made people like Dr. Huang for a reason. He heals through his hands. Thanks for a great read.
