Prevent or Fight Cancer with Graviola or Soursop or Guanabana

Wikipedia says about Steve Jobs:

Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs was an American entrepreneur, marketer, and inventor, who was the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc. Through Apple, he is widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution.

He died from pancreatic cancer that is almost impossible to treat compared to other cancers. PubMed is part of the US National Library of Medicine that is one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). PubMed has an article called:

Graviola: a novel promising natural-derived drug that inhibits tumorigenicity and metastasis of pancreatic cancer cells in vitro and in vivo through altering cell metabolism. It says:

The present study was aimed at evaluating the potential of a novel plant-derived product as a therapeutic agent for pancreatic cancer (PC).

Our experiments revealed that Graviola induced necrosis of PC [pancreatic cancer] cells by inhibiting cellular metabolism.

Note that in vitro and in vivo means in the test tube and in the living animal. Necrosis is the death of body tissue. It occurs when there is not enough blood flowing to the tissue. So Steve Jobs died from PC and the Apple computer came in second to PC when it came to sales. I do not know of people giving this to their pets but I do know that most pets die of cancer.

Wikipedia calls this tree soursop. It is a small evergreen tree. Most of the Amazon rainforest is in Brazil. In Brazilian Portuguese this tree is called graviola. It is also called Brazilian Pawpaw. It's scientific name is Annona muricata. It is much more profitable selling medications (drugs) than herbs since drugs can be patented unlike herbs and can be marked up in price hundreds of times. The Spanish word for it is guanĂ¡bana. The leaves, fruit, stem, and seeds of soursop (graviola) are used to make medicine. says about this herb:

How does it work?

Graviola contains many chemicals that may be active against cancer, as well as disease-causing agents such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

At one time I was a chemist for the U.S. federal government. Now I am an ethnobotanical herbalist and a writer. Here is another PubMed article called Anti cancer activity on Graviola, an exciting medicinal plant extract vs various cancer cell lines and a detailed computational study on its potent anti-cancerous leads. It says:

Nature is the world's best chemist: Many naturally occurring compounds have very complicated structures that present great challenges to chemists wishing to determine their structures or replicate them.

It has a wide potent anticancerous agents coined as Acetogenins which play a key role towards many varieties of cancer.

The above article also says that this herb has these phytochemicals (plant medicines) in it: anonaine, friedelin, annonamine, anomurine, kaempferol, asimilobine, xylopine, quercetin and isolaureline. Of these kaempferol is known to have many health benefits including anticancer, cardioprotective (protects the heart), anti-inflammatory and other activities.

This phytochemical is also in green tea. This is part of the reason that studies show that the more green tea that you drink, the less chance you have of getting cancer. Please note that anything that protects you from a disease also helps your body to fight that disease. For more about this see 17 Health Benefits of Green Tea.

Here is the story about this herb or botanical. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) tests out many substances to see if they have the potential to prevent or fight cancer. When they find something with a lot of promise they let the drug companies know about it.

This happened with graviola. The NCI let the drug companies know about it and one of them spent millions of dollars testing out graviola for 7 years since they were looking for the magic bullet. This would be a substance that killed cancer cells but did not hurt healthy cells. They isolated the 2 active phytocehmicals (plant medicines) in graviola. They were annonaceous acetogenins (phytochemicals or plant medicines).

So they were going to replicate them and put them into a medicine and patent it. But they were unable to replicate them. Note that above it says that nature is the best chemist. So they were done with this information about graviola and were just going to bury it. But one of the people that were part of this project decided to leak out this information so that many could benefit from this herb.

Some of the medicines come from herbs. For example at one time, malaria from mosquitoes was a big problem in New York and Paris. There was a legend about the bark of the cinchona tree in South America being able to cure malaria. So it was tested out and made into a drug (quinine) to treat malaria. Wikipedia says:

Quinine occurs naturally in the bark of the cinchona tree, though it has also been synthesized in the laboratory.

I have an article called 15 Health Benefits of St. John's Wort. On it, it has a quote from University of Maryland Medical Center saying that it is as effective as drugs like Prozac, Celexa and Zoloft in treating depression but without the side effects of these drugs. The side effects of St. John's wort are known as health benefits hence the title of my article.

The latest on Zoloft is that Pfizer is being sued since they did not warn people that it can cause serious birth defects. It is legal for a drug to do this but only if people are warned about it. So people that were depressed are having babies with serious birth defects. I have an article called The Worst Things for Health.

The third worst thing for health is smoking. The second worst thing for health is consuming salt. has an article saying that consuming salt is worse for health than smoking. Then the worst thing for health is medications. Then it lists people like Michael Jackson (that died at age 50), Elvis Presley (42), Whitney Houston (48), Brittany Murphy (32) and Heath Ledger (28) and more celebrities that died from medications.

Graviola or Soursop Fights Cancer

I am not a Christian but I like to quote the bible. Jesus said "Do onto others as you would have them do unto you." My cousin Hal Bluestein (we are Jewish) told me that this idea or concept comes from the Jewish religion.

The Catholic bible (The New American Bible) says "the leaves of the trees serve as medicine for the nations." (Revelations 22:2). The Protestant bible (New International Version) says "All the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations." (Revelation 22:2). The main part of the graviola tree that is used for cancer are the leaves. So my saying is "Money does not grow on trees but the cure for cancer does."

A study that was conducted at the Catholic University of South Korea stated that one chemical in graviola was found to kill colon cancer cells at 10,000 times the potency of the commonly used chemotherapy drug Adriamycin.

Purdue University and/or its staff have filed 9 U.S. and/or international patents on their work around the insecticidal and antitumorous properties and uses of the acetogenins in graviola. Three separate research groups have isolated novel compounds in the leaves and seeds of graviola that have demonstrated significant anticancerous, anti-tumorous and selective toxicity against various types of cancer cells. Much of Purdue University's research on the annonaceous acetogenins was funded by the NIH and/or the NCI.

Please note that above I said that herbs cannot be patented. These patents of Purdue University are a different type of patent since by looking below you see that many companies sell this herb. So anyone can sell it since it is an herb that exists in nature. But the patents on drugs are ones where no one else can sell that drug.

The head Purdue pharmacologist in Purdue's research explains that cancer cells that survive chemotherapy may develop resistance to the agent used against them as well as others, even unrelated, drugs (known as multi-drug resistance [MDR]). Purdue researchers has reported that annonaceous acetogenins preferentially killed multi-drug resistant cancer cells since it blocked production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

Please note that graviola is so effective at breaking up cancerous tumors that are holding lots of toxins, that it can cause people to have too many toxins released into their system at one time causing them to feel sick. With cleansing or detoxification programs this is called cleansing symptoms. So just use less of it. Try more of it later on. People who do not have cancer, like me, can take a large amount of it at one time like I have done to test it out.

For more on fighting or preventing cancer with detoxification, see The Grape Cure for Cancer. Also it is very important to get enough vitamin D to prevent or fight cancer. See Cancer and Vitamin D.

Other health benefits of soursop, graviola or guanabana include lowering high blood pressure, used to reduce fever, to counteract diarrhea & dysentery, to kill worms & other parasites, to help arthritis & rheumatism, help coughs & flu, used as a heart tonic, used by diabetics to stabilize blood sugar and used as a liver remedy in Brazil. says that it is is used to treat infections caused by bacteria and parasites including leishmaniasis, a disease caused by parasites transmitted through the bite of sand fleas.

From Graviola has a long history of medicinal use. The fruit and seeds of the Graviola plant are used for intestinal health and the elimination of parasites. Women eat Graviola (paw paw) to increase lactation; teas made from root and bark help as a sedative or nerve tonic and can maintain healthy glucose levels. Brazilians have used the bark, leaves, roots, fruit, seeds and flowers for thousands of years to treat everything from arthritis to liver problems.

In Polynesia teas elevate mood and reduce depression. Almost certainly, like Noni and Aloe Vera, a high polysaccharide content is responsible for many of its effects. The Cancer Cure? Research has indicated, albeit 'in vitro', that several of the active ingredients (Annonaceous acetogenins) kill malignant cells of 12 different types of cancer including: * Breast Cancer * Colon Cancer * Prostate Cancer * Liver Cancer * Lung Cancer * Pancreatic Cancer * Ovarian Cancer * and Lymphoma Annonaceous acetogenins are promising new antitumor and pesticidal agents that are found only in the plant family Annonaceae.

Very interesting. A friend of mines has metastatic pancreatic cancer. I advised him to take black seed oil and he has done remarkably well.
