Eight 15 Minute Ways to Relieve Stress

Deadlines! School! Work! Family! Money! It seems like everywhere you turn there are so many things demanding your attention. In this crazy world it can be so easy to run yourself ragged; rushing from one stress filled activity to the next. Medical professionals attribute increased heart disease, obesity, depression, chronic headaches, and so much more to being too stressed out. The stress in our life is making us all sicker.

For many of us taking care of ourselves is hard to do. We just don't seem to have the time or the money to give ourselves the relaxation we so desperately need. That's why I have complied this list of quick and affordable ways you can reduce the stress in your life.


Do A Face Mask

Face masks are one of my favorite ways to pamper myself. Easy to pick up online or from your local super market. Moisturizing, cleansing, brightening, and even firming. With such a wide variety of masks available your sure to find the perfect one for your face! Not only is this relaxing but it's also makes your skin feel and look better too.

It's not just for the ladies. Men can enjoy the benefits of face masks as well! My favorite type of face masks are the ones that come in individual pouches. Another great option is bottled face masks, which makes each mask even more affordable.


Make Yourself A Hot Drink

There are few problems that a cup of something nice and warm can't help with! Studies have found that hot beverages not only relax you they may even make you a little friendlier. A study conducted by The University of Colorado Boulder, found that people holding warm beverages where more likely to find the personality of strangers warmer and more generous then people holding iced beverages.

Hot beverages also require you to sip them rather than gulp them. This has the added benefit of forcing you to slow down to consume your beverages. Making it a great way to create a quiet moment in a hectic day.

Whether your a coffee and coco drinker or more of a tea person a nice hot drink is an easy and delicious way to distress.

Rub Your Feet

In this go, go, go world our feet get a lot of abuse. But a good foot rub might relive more than just your sore feet! The ancient healing practice of reflexology maintains that there are reflex points in your feet that correspond to different glands and organs all over your body. By rubbing different areas of your feet you can improve circulation, promote better sleep, relieve various aches and pains, and much, much more.

Rubbing your feet is a great thing to do after a hot shower! I usually like to rub my feet using a lotion or foot creme. One of my favorite foot cremes is Soap and Glory's Heel Genius. It's a great cure for dry and cracked heels! When I'm done I always tuck my toes into a pair of soft fuzzy socks.


Draw or Color

Drawing or doodling can be a good way to loosen up, express your emotions, and just have fun! It requires very little supplies, all you need is a pen or pencil and something to write on. You could even doodle on the back of a napkin! It doesn't matter how you're drawings look so long as you as loosen up and just enjoy the process. Simple shapes, lines, and patterns are a great place to start!

Another option is to color someone else's drawings rather than come up with your own. There are many adult coloring books available online and in stores that are especially designed to help in relieving stress. Coloring has been found to help calm the amygdala, which is the part of our brains responsible for processing our responses to emotions such as fear, anger, and pleasure.


Do Some Stretches

Stretching can also be a great way to relieve stress not only mentally but also physically. Many of us have jobs that require us to sit at desks for long hours. This can put strain on several different parts of our bodies. Stretching is a great way to loosen up and relieve sore and aching muscles. It can also help to strengthen muscles and flush out toxins.


Creative Writing and List Making

Taking a few moments to make a list or even write a short poem, scene, or story is a great way to not only distress but also get organized or preserve a memory!

Writing out things to do, things that are stressing you out, or even things you are thankful for is a great way to give you a better perspective! I love to make lists of things I want to buy or do, things that make me sad or happy, or even just things I'm looking forward too. It can be a great way to distract your mind and organize your thoughts!

Another way that I like to express myself and relieve stress is by writing poetry. You can make your poems funny or sad, rhyming or abstract, short or long, it's up to you! Then when you're finished you have a great poem you can share with someone else.


Go Outdoors!

Enjoying nature is a great way to relieve stress and also make your healthier. The sun is a great way to get vitamin D as well as just breathing more fresh air.

There are so many beautiful things in nature for you to look at and enjoy! Going for a quick walk or even just sitting outdoors for a few moments is a great way to boost your mood, calm down, and just relax!
