Flowers - The Stars of the Earth

Updated on June 5, 2010

I love Flowers. They always brighten up my mood. They look beautiful, delicate, colourful and smell so lovely.

It’s spring now and I really enjoy walking. Only this time of the year, I stop to take photo’s. Sometimes they are even photo’s of people’s gardens and I’m sure one or two people must have spotted me from their windows. So, if you see me on SKY News, you know what happened. Headline: “Lady seen taking photographs” or “Lady seen in Bushes with Camera”.

PS. All the photos in this Hub were taken by me in May 2010.

Do they have any benefits?

  • Flowers lift a persons mood or the mood of the house. They bring about positive, happy emotions and a general sense of well-being about life.
  • More productivity at Work. A research demonstrated that creative performance and problem solving skills improve substantially in workplace environments that include flowers and plants.
  • Flowers make intimate connections.
  • Flowers have healing properties. E.g. Roses are used a lot in the alternative medicine area to ease digestive issues and promote healing in the liver.
  • Positive impact on mental health - Fresh flowers also have an impact on mental health. According to the Harvard University Home Ecology of Flowers Study, individuals have lower levels of anxiety and depression upon viewing fresh flowers, especially in the morning and it can increase energy levels.
  • Nutrition – Some flowers are edible and are used in Recipe’s. I haven’t tried this yet. For now I’m happy admiring them, but if you want to know which ones are edible. Click Here: Edible Flowers

So, flowers are really good for us. Do you have any favourite flowers or do you just love them all?

Ps: If you are in UK or US, I hope you will visit one of the Botanical Gardens below this summer.

Lol. Cheers Support Med for helping me with the Paparazzi. I hope you have green fingers, so the seeds in your pots will grow quickly. There's still time for a Blooming summer on your Porch.

      Best Wishes. :)

Lady_E: I love the title of this hub! You are quite the photographer! I'll do all I can to keep the 'paparazzi' away, would not want to read 'famed hubber snoops in other peoples gardens' LOL!! Took a peek at the gardens, they are beautiful! Some of the statues in the Missouri garden are a bit much IMO. I've planted some seeds in pots on my enclosed back porch (not allowed to dig on the grounds), they are growing but have not bloomed yet, I'm looking forward to it. Anyhoo, very aromatic hub, Voted-up/rated!

Aaaah Dreamreachout - So observant. Hope your well. HP upset me abit. They "touched" one of my Hubs. (Adult Content!) I edited it and they still haven't bothered giving me feedback, so I couldn't be bothered logging in. Feeling a bit cheesed off. lol.

Just logged in now and I have 17 comments to get through so I thought I'd start out with one person who always brings sunshine my way.

Thanks for stopping. Have a lovely day. :)

I love flowers with a passion, too deep to put in words. They make me happy, like you pointed out and just one bloom is enough to lift my spirit. I also create fresh floral arrangements for fun. This July, I'm doing all the centerpieces for a friend's wedding, plus bouquets and corsages and bouttonieres--the whole nine. Can't wait. Thanks for the lovely hub.

I can't believe this Lady_E. I started a hub on roses a while back, but I can't seem to finish it. I intend to take my camera out with me, but I always forget. But looking at your hub gives me inspiration. I loved it.

Beautiful piece, Lady E. It's funny, the simplest things usually bring us the most joy. A lovely flower garden, a gorgeous sunrise/ sunset or waves caressing a white sand beach. A peaceful reminder of nature at work. Great photos! Ciao.

I never paid any serious attention to 'flowers'. Your passion for them is awesome... You refer to them as if they are 'alive!' (of course they are). I can't believe am being lured into the world of flowers. That's how effective this hub is, and that's how good you are...

When I bought my house a long time ago, it had a beautiful flower garden that I didn't have the time or expertise to maintain. I still have a few red and pink rose bushes that I find so beautiful, and they are hearty enough to endure despite my lack of a green thumb. I am so happy to have them in the yard and enjoy them tremendously.

Your photos are terrific, and it is nice to see you risk a spot on the news to take these beautiful photographs. Thanks for sharing them.

** Hello Pete, it's nice that you have a vegetable garden. Growing your own healthy, organic Veg. I must make a mental note of the fact that Marigolds can ward off bugs.

Elena, it is said that ones who dont love children and flowers are devils!!

On a positive rhetoric, flowers are the best things on Earth in all their hues and colours, with all its fragrance and with all the freshness it spreads to the human world!!

You read suny's hub on "the valley of flowers" in India and its a must visit for you during your trip here!!

If you visit India, it seems you have to be here for atleast three months because you got to visit Taj Mahal, all my hill stations, now this valley of flowers along with shopping as also meet Amitabh Bachchan .. Lol!! :)

Nothing cheers us up more than flowers. I can't wait until the weather is warm enough to plant. Right now they are blooming and beautiful thanks to the frequent thunderstorms we've had this year.

We have several flower beds around our house and we have marigolds planted in the vegetable garden to ward off some of the bugs. Flowers do wonders for the look of your house and they add color to any scene.

BTW your mention of Sky news made me think of my days working in Gibraltar.
