Foods that can help prevent heart attack

A heart attack occurs when the flow of oxygen –rich blood to the heart is blocked. Heart attack is known as the silent killer.

Red wine- A new studies that the red wine can benefit not only you heart but also your vascular system. Resveratrol and antioxidants found in the red wine help with maintaining good heart function and protection. Drink moderately.

Skim milk- is low in fat and high in nutrients and it provides fluid balance and prevents strain to the heart and helps the heart to function properly and healthy.

Drinking water- is the easiest way to prevent heart attack but it is ignored. Drinking lots of water keeps the heart attack at bay.

Tuna Fish- is rich in omega 3 fatty acids it is nutritious and helps fight of clots in the arteries and heart. Fresh tuna is necessary but canned tuna still works to keep the heart healthy and fit.

Orange juice – rich in vitamin C, minerals, and compounds that help keep your heart healthy and strong. Also, have antioxidants that can prevent cellular damage. So drink a glass or two of orange juice to prevent a heart attack.

Dark Chocolate- improves blood vessels health by increasing your endothelium production in your body and it makes your heart healthier and functional.

Red Grapefruit- is rich in vitamin c and it contains lycopene, soluble fiber and pectin, which helps with lowering cholesterol and has powerful antioxidants that remove radicals in the system.

Spinach – has antioxidants and a small amount of omega fatty acids that increase the good cholesterol and lowers the bad cholesterol.

Salmon- is the most heart healthy of all fishes because it contains omega fatty acids and it is a good source of protein. Although Tuna is beneficial it must be consumed moderately as, it contains high mercury, which might not be good for you.

Tofu- a good heart diet as it is high in protein, potassium, magnesium and folate.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are necessary at all time to maintain a healthy heart. Try to steam your vegetables and make sure that they are not over-cooked and eat some raw if possible.

Lean Turkey- is good for the heart and must be included in the diet and it contains tryptophan, which lowers stress hormones and can help you relax. Lean turkey is beneficial and can help prevent heart attack.

Other foods that help prevent heart attack are blueberries, egg whites, cook with olive oil and red peppers.

      I may take caution on chocolate as it is a stimulant that constricts arteries. Vote up and interesting. The fruits you mentioned are antioxidants.

      Great hub. If I can offer some advice, it may be helpful to group your foods and put them under bold faced sections. Something like MEATS, VEGGIES,FRUITS, OTHERS.... Great info though.
