Clomid:

Clomid is a medicine to induce ovulation and help you to get pregnant. It is used in the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome related infertility and invasive fertility treatments. The effect of this medicine depends upon the dose and the estrogen status of the women. Clomid may contain inactive ingredients which may cause allergic reactions in some patients. Tell your health care provider if you have any allergies before using this medicine. The common side effects include hot flashes, mood swings, breast tenderness and nausea. Clomid sometimes may cause blurred vision during or after therapy. Notify your doctor if you have any visual effects and use caution when doing hazardous activities. Clomid is effective in women who produce sufficient estrogen. Inform your doctor if you have uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, liver disease, abnormal vaginal bleeding, pituitary tumor, adrenal gland problems and thyroid problems. Clomid is also called as Clomiphene citrate. Here are some of the foods to avoid when taking Clomid.

1. Herbs: Avoid herbs such as agave root, black haw, false unicorn root, black cohosh root, chasteberries, gingseng root, licorice and raspberry leaves.

2. Raw meats and deli meats: Raw meats and deli meats should be avoided when taking clomid. Raw meats due to the risk of toxoplasmosis, coliform bacteria and salmonella.

3.Soy prodcuts: Soy products should be avoided when taking clomid. Soy products such as soy milk, soy beans and soy sauce. Ask your health care provider first before taking soy products.

4. Fish high in mercury content should be avoided when taking clomid. High levels of mercury may cause developmental delays in babies. Some of the fish high in mercury include swordfish, king mackerel, shark and tile fish.

5. Avoid canned and prepackaged foods when taking clomid. These may contain salmonella.

6. Alcohol and smoking: Alcohol and smoking should be avoided when taking clomid. Alcohol may cause physical and mental birth defects in babies.

7.Others: Other foods to avoid with clomid include artificial sweetners, caffeine, peppermint tea, saw palmetto berried, sesame seeds, soft cheeses such as blue cheese. You can also avoid taking large amounts of pineapple and papaya. These fruits may cause uterine contractions and result in miscarriage.

Dosage: The common dosage of clomid is 50 mg for five days. It is taken on menstrual days 3 through 7 or days 5 through 9 of your cycle. You must the follow the directions your doctor gives, as every health care provider may have a different protocol. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor right away.

How to store: Store at room temperature between 15 to 30 degrees C. Always keep in a closed container and stay away from heat, light and moisture. Keep the medicines away from children.

Note:

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to get pregnant and nursing before taking this medicine. This medicine may reduce milk production. Consult your doctor before nursing your baby.
  • Notify your doctor if you take any medicines such as prescription medicines, non prescription medicines and herbal supplements. These medicines may interact with clomid.
  • Get medical emergency if you have any allergic reactions such as hives, rash, difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue and face.
