For Those With Cancer
by Michele Adams
I thought I'd devote a devotional to those who are facing cancer right now...
Why me? That is one of the first questions that pops into your mind when you are diagnosed.
Am I being punished by God for my sins?
Let me just tell you that cancer is not something that God brings upon people! How do I know this? Read 1John 4:1, "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."
What does cancer do? It steals. It destroys. It lies. Sounds like the devil's work, not God's!
God can use the devil to accomplish good works. Works that glorify God, not give credit to Satan.
God would not give anyone cancer, however He may allow it to come into our lives, for whatever reason, to strengthen us.
God will never leave you alone in this mess. He is right there, waiting for you to cry out for help. He promises to be there with you, even when you feel like you are all alone.
You are either going to live through this, or you are going to die. There is nothing you can do to control either outcome, however, you can control how you will face it.
Do you decide to stay in your bed and give up? Do you decide to take out your frustrations on those around you? Do you decide to be despondent and depressed? Do you decide to cry?
Or rather, do you decide to start fighting? Do you decide to love on everyone you can? Do you decide to get out of bed and face the disease? Do you decide to laugh?
I chose the latter, and am better for it. I did not (nor do I still) know if I would live or die from this disease, but I chose to give God glory as long as I have breath in my lungs to do so.
I CHOSE to fight, and laugh, and have peace. God walked beside me every step of the way. He picked me up when I was down. He strengthened my faith. He gave me peace that surpasses all understanding. He healed me in every way. However, if He decided to take me home, I would have still CHOSE the same path for my walk.
Know that you are not alone in this fight. There are many on your side, and the most important is God.
