Goal Tracking

Setting goals or making resolutions, will not result in success unless you follow through and take action to achieve your objectives.

Your goals can be as lofty as running an iron man triatholon, or as simple cutting down on the amount of coffee you drink. Whatever your personal goal, consistent action is what turns these objectives into success.

Motivational experts tell us that keeping track of your positive and negative actions as you move towards your goal, will increase your chances of achieving them. Recording positive actions that move you towards your goal will act as a positive reinforcement, while being honest and recording when you did not work towards your goal will help you see where you are making mistakes and how to correct them.

There are a number of free online goal tracking tools and apps that can help you keep track of your progress.

Joe's Free Online Tracking Tool

This is one of the best and simplest to use goal tracking tool. It allows you to set any number of goals and then track your progress on a daily basis by entering a plus or minus to indicate whether you did something to achieve your goal or whether you worked against your objective. The program keeps score for you; a positive score indicates you are making progress. It also allows you to keep a diary to record what you did specifically on any given day. For example, if you were training for a marathon, you could record how many miles you ran that day.

The program may be great but the website and interface could use a major overhaul.

43 Things

43 Things is the name of a social networking site that allows you to post your goals and track your progress online. It lets you interact with other members by posting encouragement and also gaining inspriation from what others are doing. You can also "borrow" other members' online goals and start doing them yourself. In case you are wondering why it is called 43 Things, the website's FAQ says that it 43 is the right number of things that a busy person can accomplish in a day.

Sadly it appears that this great online tracking tool has ceased to exist. The web address brings you to a holding page and nothing more.

If getting in shape is your goal, provides an online diary to keep track of your exercise routines and your eating habits. The tool also provides a calorie counter, longterm diet analysis, and nutritional info on thousands of foods. offers a goal tracking tool to help you save money, spend wisely and improve your finances. A free online tool allows you you track your money and spending decisions. It also features a goals-tracking section.
