Good In Life

Updated on January 31, 2012

Then it was hard

Hello everyone, as you are reading this, I hope that you gain some insight about seeking out, searching for good and positive things that make your life have more fullness in a good way.

At an early age I learned about discouragement, oppression and a whole myriad of completely negative actions and behaviors. While trying to be a typical toddler getting into things out of curiosity, I learned very quickly what I could and could not touch. The stove top was a "NO", knives another "NO-NO", bees and wasp, "No". There was very little a youngin could put his hands on in front of grown ups that wouldn't cause a reaction and possibly make you cry and sulk. A few of the good things were tricycle, toy gun, all your own toys, not others toys.

It never ceased to amaze me how upset my parents would get whenever we would play and someone came running to them to tattle that so n so took my this or that. My dads philosophy was, " It's yours isn't it? Well go get it back, why you coming to me, I didn't take it away." Then when we would forcibly go and retrieve what was ours, the guilty party ran to them crying and told a little lie something like, he hit me for no reason! They would laugh and say, go hit 'em back. Talk about utter confusion! One minute you are told don't hit your brother, sister or friend and the next was if they hit you, hit them back a little harder.

Then there was all the negativity such as you can't do that, you are never gonna be able to handle that or just cause so n so does it do you think you have to? Looking back on it now, it all seems so crazy and without purpose, but I also realize that all of this activity is building character, maybe not the right kind of character, but never the less it was lessons to learn.

Beautiful Music Video

These days

Now after growing older for what seems like centuries and living through some really hard times, bad times and good times, I am finding it a little easier to see the goodness that is all around me. I actually see some positive things in life. I'll have to admit there is a whole lot of bad in this world and plenty of negative energy swirling about, but if you search out good things, you will find them. A beautiful sunrise or sunset is always welcome, blooming flowers and maybe seeing a hummingbird hover and feed on nectar. Wind blowing the leaves out of trees can be a wonderful thing, knowing that as seasons pass away and new ones begin, there is a feeling of new beginnings happening.

One of my favorite things to do while discovering good things about life is to take a few ends out of the bread bag and go feed the seagulls. It is truly amazing how agile they are while flying around you catching the bread morsels in midflight.

Another beautiful thing in life is just sitting at the beach marvelling at the beauty of the water, always moving, providing life for much more than the eye can see.

I encourage all to stop and take in the beauty and wonder of things and realize just how magnificent it really is. There will always be bad in the world and things will not always feel comfortable, but know this, there will be beauty and there can always be inner peace, we just have to go looking for it.

Thank you Sky, writing hubs is kind of like a vent to get true feelings out in the open sometimes. It helps me when I release what I am thinking. May we all continue in His grace.

Awww!! Thank you for this beautiful Hub. The world seems half good and half bad to me, all things considered. Without the bad, we might not recognize the good. :)
