How to achieve happiness? Simple ways!
'Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn't know you left open.' -John Barrymore.
You want happiness more than anything else in the world. You feel worthwhile only when you are satisfied with your life. But you find it impossible to experience happiness in your fast paced life. You look at the external smiling facade of the rich and feel that they are the happiest people in the world.
Can money and fame make you happy?
If it was true all rich and famous people would be happy. In reality they too have problems. They too lack happiness. Happiness does not depend upon money or wealth. It depends on your mindset. But the hectic lifestyle you lead makes you tensed and stressed. You make your life torturous and agonizing by buckling under the various pressures you face.
‘How can I ever be happy when I have competition all around me? I have to be always on my toes to keep pace with others.’
Learn a precious lesson from a child!
Have you seen a child? He is always smiling and happy. Where does he find his happiness? His mind is free from worries and he does not fume and fret about anything. He is not bothered by outward hazards.
But can you say the same about you? You begin the day worrying and end the day worrying. You do not enjoy good relationship with your spouse which makes your family life lack happiness. You are worried by the competition in your work place. You take your temporary failures too seriously and feel that you are born to be defeated.
Solutions are always there!
Do not let any hardships affect you deeply. Everything can be handled and solved. You should begin the day in a happy state of mind. Spend happy time with your family as it acts like an energy booster to work with proficiency in your workplace.
Work place is not a tension place!
You should have a positive mentality in your work place. You should have compatibility with all your colleagues. Is there a bully at your workplace? Does he torment you? Handle him with assertiveness and let him know he cannot take you for granted. Be sincere in your work and enjoy it. Everyone has different work efficiency. So do not compare you with others. Comparison is a bad trait which mars happiness in all aspects of your life.
I am very new to writing. Initially, when I started writing I read the articles written by experts. I was very apprehensive as I did not have their efficiency.. I felt myself very wanting and insufficient. I was unhappy, thinking I was dull witted and incapable of writing.
Then one day I told myself, ‘why worry, everyone have their own style, I will try my best. I am sure there will be people who like my style of writing also.’ This relaxed and happy state of mind has cleared my brain of its lethargy. I now find writing an enjoyable experience.
Family is your treasure!
Your family is your treasure and pleasure. You should cherish and love them. Do not take your work tension home. It makes you and your family unhappy. Spend quality time with them and take them out to relieve your tension.
During the weekends show them your culinary talent. Surprise them with gifts and feel an inner glow in their happiness. Share wonderful moments with your pets and feel your heart overwhelm with happiness in their innocent and playful behavior
Once in a while spend time in an orphanage or an old age home. You will thank god for whatever he has given you. You can gift the deprived people with things they need and feel content in their happiness.
Small things can give you happiness!
Be happy in small things also. The other day I was shopping for earrings in a typical Indian platform shop. To my happiness I saw the exact color earrings my daughter has asked me. Its price was less than a dollar. The earrings matched the new dress she had bought. When she saw it she gave me a happy hug. Her pleasure was mine.
Affluence is not happiness
There is a mistaken notion that only richness brings you happiness. A big bungalow, latest car, TV and other high technology innovations are your status symbols. But it does not signify your happiness. If wealth was a criterion for happiness then all rich people must be the only happy ones.
‘Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.’ –Dalai Lama
Your happiness is in your mind. Be happy that god has created you without any physical impairment when you see the handicapped. Be happy that you have a family when you see the orphans. God has gifted you with endless blessings. When you count your blessings you see the world with new happiness.
