Has life been good to you?

Updated on October 21, 2014

What makes a good life?

What is a good life? Is it fame or fortune? Is it being in the spotlight? Would having all the money you could spend make your life happier?

The saddest story I have ever heard was this one. A young man planned to retire a millionaire by the time he was fifty. He did all the regular things that young men do, he landed a great job, making great money. He fell in love, got married, and started his family. He had a wonderful, loving wife, who stood by his side as he worked endless hours every week. She took care of the children, the home, the bills, etc.

He was a very hard working man and tucked away all he could save. Remember, he wanted to retire a millionaire by fifty.

Every week he worked and worked. His wife was growing tired of him being away from home so much and missing very important events. He was missing the holidays too! The children were growing up quickly and not seeing very much of their father!

Soon the children were grown and moving out on their own. The wife, too tired of being alone all the time divorced him and married another. The children had their own lives and rarely seen him.

Now he is turning fifty and he is a millionaire as he planned, so he retires. His health starts failing and he is going from one doctor to another. He is hospitalized and his bills are running into his millions. He calls his ex wife to come and visit, she declines. He calls his children to come and visit, Dad we have too much to do! So here he is alone. His money is going as fast as his health.

He lost all those years with his wife and children from greed and now he is alone. His money is almost gone. So is it worth it? I would say not!

Time can not be replaced, once it is gone, it is gone for good! What makes a good life? I would saying being as good of a person as you can be. Love your children, family, and friends.

You touched on the most important thing in life - do not let the little things go by and it is your time with someone that will be remembered the most...cheers and well done.
