Have you figured out your purpose in life?
Sylvester Stallone could have done anything else in life,but he decided to act. He represented his full purpose through his acting. I am sure many of you guys have seen his "Rocky" series. We can say the same thing for Mohammed Ali, but he wanted to box. He threw hooks and jabs with purpose. This purposes of life drives us and ties our whole life together. Everything we do resolves the concept of purpose.
The discovery of purpose
Purpose is the reason we exist. It’s not the current job. You have to discover this like Gautama the prince who went to realize this purpose. That moment of enlightenment is what matters. It’s like you are knocking off the top layer of you to get to the deeper level. As you go deeper and deeper, you develop more of a self-realization.
When we are first born, we do not even know what we are supposed to do. Our parents guide us through life events to give us purpose. As we get older, this purpose can transform and we learn that we can command ourselves. Overtime, we get exposed to certain activities, hobbies, and occasions to learn our passions. These things give us a sense of direction. They allow us to compute what we want to do in life. Of course, institutions put in place a career day, which helps students decide the line of work they want to get into. Our strength decides on what would be a good fit as a career choice. Weaknesses filter out what would be bad choices. Sometimes we have difficult situations, which do not allow you to follow the path in the meantime.
Do you know what your purpose is ?
Speak for yourself
We want to find this underlying purpose. Otherwise, we are spinning our wheels. If you have seen a car stuck in the mud, then you have probably seen the tires spin. And we do not see forward mobility. When we do not focus on ourselves, people tend to plug their purpose in for you. You need to take control of this area of your life.
You do not want anyone else to run your life, but you can have your goals in line with those of your family members and friends. You know where you stand in your situation. Others will put their thoughts on you because they see your life in a different light. At that point, you need to explain what's going on with you and that you want something in specific.
Once you know what your purpose is, find out the how. What I mean by how is, what the path you are able take to get there. You can also term this as the approach you take.
There are many things that can make it difficult for your purpose to be known. Here is the list:
1. The people in your life try to determine what you should do. They decide the way you walk, talk, think and etc. You want to walk outside this comfort zone and show them that you can do everything for yourself. You have to let them that things will happen with or without their consent.
2. Difficult times can make it really tough to go along with what you want to do. With this obstacle, you just have to be patient. When you get frustrated, embrace patience. The solution to these types of issues is time. Overtime, you tend to find out opportunities or tools that can help you in the resolution of the issue. For example, if your obstacle was jumping over a bar, then you would not be able to do it at that point. Who says it's not possible? It can be possible, but you would need to gain the opportunity to learn certain skills to hop over the bar.
3. Focus is lost. You feel like you can accomplish results in many ways. Your job is to give attention to the approach that gives the best results. When our attention is divided amongst so many options, how can we focus on accomplishing certain tasks. We only have so much time and energy to use, so why focus on various ways.
The underlying statement is: minimize the amount of energy and time you spend.
Out of the three things I discussed right above , what is stopping your purpose from being known?
The tool you need to run your own life
It happens people try to run your life. You need to know you have a tool. The tool is the choice to say yes or no. It is God given. Learn to say no. I know I am a type of person, who likes to say yes to everything. And I need to learn how to say no at times when time is limited or when the path of your purpose is going to be tampered. I know you have probably heard this before. It might piss off people, but it will set you free. It will release that stress we all feel.
Minimize the time you waste.
I know the concept of time and energy is redundant in my hub, but it is that much more important. They are not infinite. Time goes in one direction unless you can time travel like Stewie in Family guy. Why do we not focus on finding our purpose? When our mind is congested with meaningless things, we become mentally foggy to figure out what we want from life. Our mind is also filled up with a lot of concerns. We need to open up our minds and dissect those concerns on the table. Cutting down the roots of concern in your mind puts you in the lead of a productive-thought process.
When you lost mental clarity which of the following three did you use to aid in the thought-clearing process?
To get yourself mentally clear, you should meditate, jog or even play sports. These modes of stress relief not only relieve physical stress, but mental stress too. I know when I have a mental fog throughout the whole day, I have to jog as soon as I come back home from work. I start from my house and jog for 30 minutes. As I physically make a rush, I start becoming a rushed thinker. I become more lucid in my frame of mind. Your thoughts start hitting 100 miles/min. You want to start driving your thought vehicle that fast. Say Vroom Vroom! It’s worth doing it because you start having a clear vision of what you want to do.
Purpose is universal.
We think purpose is used only for career life, but we can set a purpose for our relationships, the activities we like to get involved in and the reason we visit certain events. In this case, purpose is an agenda we keep. Take the example of going to the doctor. Why do we go there? We want certain answers to question that lurk in your mind about your body. We do not go there for small talk. Why do certain people go to informational sessions on motivation, or other topics? It is because our minds want to be motivated. We go there to ask questions about motivation. We can take motivation at face value and feel we know how it works, but then again we feel that’s how it runs and not know it. We want to concretely understand how motivation operates. I have a purpose for what I do in my relationships. We might do things at first that seems detrimental to a relationship, but we do it so we can have a reviving relationship. We want that grass to be green.
