Having Control of Your Life
What it feels like to not be in control...
Ever felt like you had no control of your life. Like anything you try to accomplish just seems to become incomplete. Like you're just drifting, a balloon without a string to keep it grounded or a steady wind to just carry it in one direction. You're just going through a whole whirlwind. Nothing makes sense. Things that would usually motivate you, you stare blankly at. Like you know things make sense but you don't see the point in anything.
I have tried to devour myself into things I may like, such as writing or creating jewelry or anything of the sorts but when I sit down to do it, it's like I've gone blank. Like if I am not forcing myself to do something, even these are things I love doing. Trust me when I say that I tried to comprehend what's been happening; I would just get upset and maybe even cry cause it's frustrating me but I don't know what is frustrating me.
I won't know what to do. I would just feel stuck. Like if I have no idea what I am doing with my life or what I wanna achieve with it. It's as though I have hit a road block but I'm confused if I should get out and walk or just wait and see what happens. My mind says walk but yet it feels like there's this weight that is telling me to just wait and see.
Normally when this happens to me, I just try and free flow something. Just write a poem about whatever comes into my head and see where that goes. However, that doesn't even seem to do the trick anymore. I stumble on stanzas, even erase whatever I have, (if I even manage to write something) cause I am not pleased with it. Like I just doubt everything I do.
I haven't been able to complete two projects I have wanted to complete as yet due to this. My interactions with people would even be moody and it's just a lot and I don't know what to do. However I do have a few things that has been helping me try and overcome this and gain a bit of control over what I do and how my life should go.
Here are a few things that have helped..
- Know what you want to achieve. This one is pretty straight forward. Have that mental goal planned out in your head as to what you wanna achieve, where do you wanna be in the next five years etc, and stick to it.
- Still try to put out. Still try and do something. Even though it may not work out at once, just try. Keep your mind active and keep pushing to do what it is that you wanna achieve. It turns out better in your favour and it is better than doing nothing.
- Have positive influence around you. It doesn't benefit you if you have people around you who know you are not in the mind-set to do what you want to or have to do but don't take action or don't at least attempt to motivate you in doing what you need to do. Therefore, obtain persons who are willing to help you fight for what you want.
- Have a to do list or a list of some sort. This helps keep you organised. This also allows you to keep yourself focused or at least in a stable mindset, which in turn will allow you to perform tasks a bit easier.
- Don't keep anything bottled up. If anything is bothering you, talk to someone about it. It's good to have reassurance. If you're not comfortable with talking about it, write it down. It's still a way to get it off your chest, so you feel lighter and able to attack tasks again.
Taking control over your life isn't going to be the easiest thing to do. It isn't a switch you just turn on. I mean people may say that, but there are things you have to work on, problems you need to fix and you need to have the motivation to fulfill whatever it is you set your mind to.
It isn't the easiest thing to follow, and it's even easier to go astray from it but once you know what you want, stick with it.
