Healing Hands of Reiki :Common Questions and Answers

Updated on May 13, 2015

Understanding the Magic Behind Reiki

For people who have never been exposed to alternative energy healing methods, Reiki may seem something rather mysterious, in successful cases magical or even scary. It was the same with me a couple of decades ago when I went with my parents to attend the basic course.

However ever since 1998 I have been practicing Reiki more or less regularly, and I have seen it help so many people that I feel I must educate those ignorant of its fabulous possible contribution to their mental, emotional and physical health.

I have already written a hub about Reiki (link on the right) which gives many concepts however there are a number of basic questions which it does not answer. So here is an attempt to introduce a layman to the magical healing process called Reiki.

If you have more questions than the ones answered here you may want to check out the other hub for more answers. And you are always free to ask more questions here in the comments section and I will answer them.

What can Reiki be used for?

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Reiki

Reiki is a form of energy healing which was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in 1922. He was a Buddhist Medical Doctor who was Japanese. That is why some times the system of Reiki Healing is also called the Usui System of healing.

2. What is Energy Healing

All of us have our own energy fields. The body has its own energy field which needs to be balanced to be free from disease. In case of an energy imbalance the in the energy field you can see the effects on the physical body. In Energy Healing the therapist will balance the body's energy field to free you of disease.

3. Can any one do Reiki?

No, to be able to do Reiki you need to be initiated into Reiki by a Reiki Master. There are claims of people teaching you Reiki Online, but that does not work as well. A distant attunetment is not as effective as actually attending a workshop to learn the Reiki healing techniques. You need to be physically initiated into the system. Don't waste money on any one who says you can read a book and learn to do Reiki.

4. How do you get started with Reiki

The Reiki Master will initiate you into Reiki 1 over a period of two days. There are a number of concepts that you will be introduced to. You will be taught about the laying of hands and the positions that you must use during healing. Also there will be the actual initiation ceremony. After the initiation you will have to do a 21 day cleansing of the energy field of your own body before you can touch any one else for actual healing with Reiki.

5. How many levels of Reiki are there

There is Reiki 1 which involves being able to do physical healing on yourself and any one present in front of you. Then in Reiki 2 you learn to do distant healing with the help of the Reiki symbols. In Reiki 3A you are taught the master symbol for magnifying the energy that you can send. The last is the Reiki Master level where you can initiate others into the Reiki healing system.

6. Can I do all the levels one after the other

No good Reiki Master will initiate you into Reiki 1, 2 and 3 immediately after each other. There is a recommended minimum 21 day gap between each level. The gap between the initiations helps the body adjust to the higher energy levels it reaches with each attunement. Also you perform self healing on your own body and familiarize yourself with the treatment methodology before you try to perform it on others.

7. How do you choose a Reiki master

The choice of a Reiki Master is crucial to your success as a Reiki Medium. It is best to choose some one who comes from the Takata lineage in Reiki Masters as MadameTakata herself was initiated into Reiki by Dr. Usui's student Dr. Hayashi. She had trained 22 Reiki Masters by the time she died. So pick some one who has learnt from these Reiki Masters or their disciples. A quick search online will provide a list of these 22 names.

8. What all can you use Reiki on

Reiki is merely the redirecting of Universal Energy to charge and balance energy fields. Since everything around us has energy you can use it on everything. Charge the food you eat, charge the plants around you to grow better, charge the animals and pets if you wish. You can even charge your car, electrical gadgets and even the doors and windows of your house. The only limit on using Reiki is placed by your own imagination.

9. Can Children learn Reiki

There is absolutely no restriction on who can learn Reiki. Any one who is willing to be initiated into Reiki can learn Reiki. In fact children can also be initiated into Reiki and they tend to make very good mediums for energy flow. This is because they have less prejudices and inhibitions than adults.

10. Does Reiki need to be refreshed

Once you have been initiated into Reiki it will stay with you for life, there is no extinction date. Yes if you are not practicing Reiki actively and then want to do so, you will need to go through your 21 day cleaning and re charging process all over again. You can do this as your Reiki Master has taught you without going back to any other Reiki initiation class.

A very interesting hub. I've been fascinated by reiki for a long time but didn't know too much about it, so it does seem a bit mysterious and exclusive. Your hub has taught me a bit more! One day I'm hoping to do a course and be able to learn all about it for myself.

      Thanks for the information!
