Occasionally, you will see Black seed referred to as "Onion seed", but it is a mistake in terminology, due to similarity in the appearance of seeds!

Black seed is known by many names like Kalongi in India , Black Cumin, Black Caraway Seed, habbat al –Baraka or “The Blessed Seed” during the time of Prophet (p.b.u.h.), Charnuska in Russia . But always consider its Latin name to avoid confusion.

Latin Botanical Name : Nigella Sativa

Black Seed is believed to have originated in Mediterranean Countries. Then its growth spread to Africa, Asia, Europe, America. And Today, due to its innumerable medicinal uses, Black seed is cultivated worldwide .But because it is sensitive to climate and soil conditions, it is mostly found in Middle East Countries.
