Healthy and Nutritious Food for 2 to 3-Year-Old Babies
By the age of 2, your child starts learning to eat more solid foods and is more active. Picky eating is normal in toddlers. To inculcate healthy eating habits in our kids we need to teach them about making healthy food choices. A toddler should eat healthy food or snack in every two to three hours. Serve small frequent meals.
To make sure that toddlers get sufficient nutrition and energy throughout the day, try to set a routine of three meals a day with two in-between snacks. Here are few food items that are nutritious and healthy for your kid:
- Seasonal Fruits and Green leafy Vegetables:
Fruits and veggies are rich in vitamins and minerals that will keep your kid healthy and build immunity. Fruits have fewer calories when compared to fast foods. Fiber quotient available in fruits also reduces the risk of constipation. There are many ways we can include these in their diet. From stuff parathas to fruits pancakes, there are many quick and easy recipes that can be made as per your toddler’s taste or choice.
- Milk and Dairy products
Dairy products like cheese, milk, and yogurt give children a great deal of nourishment. Make sure to include foods rich in energy and protein in your toddler’s diet. Dairy product and milk are a good source of calcium, which is must for growing children to build healthy bones and teeth. Unless your doctor doesn’t advise otherwise, milk should be a part of your toddler’s daily diet.
- Dry fruits (In moderation)
Dry fruits are a good source of iron, protein and vitamins. However, one must check for any allergies before introducing these into a child’s diet. A bowl of assorted nut can boost his hemoglobin level and keep the threat of anemia at bay. Dry fruits supply lot of antioxidants to your kid’s body.
It is good to plan regular meals and snacks with a variety of foods for your toddler. Make sure that meal time is fun and relaxing which will help your toddler to enjoy his or her meals. Their meal portion should be small. The best thing you can do is offer your toddler a variety of foods from each food group with different tastes, textures, and colors.
Serve small bite-sized or finger sized pieces of food to the child. It is good to introduce nutritious snacks as fillers in between meals. A proper meal plan for 2 year old should include a variety of food to ensure that toddlers get all the nutrients they need while growing up.
