Wow...Thats lot of information. I have a 4 yr old who is regularly disturbed with severe cough. Have tried the honey + ginger combination and it really works well. Good to know the other alternatives.

Recently met a doctor who advised not to spit out the flem. His take was that when you swallow it, it gets into the digestive system and gets eliminated. The bacteria causing the cough present in the flem "will be taken care off" in the digestive process". But when you spit it out, you are allowing the bacteria to flourish outside your system!!!. Not sure if its right. Never tried swallowing though...

Thanks - these are mixtures that I would never have thought of - most natural sites go on about honey. I am intrigued about the Tumeric mix - I must try that next time I get a cold.

Thank you for sharing this - very insightful. Although I've heard of most of the treatments you've written about, it's useful to have all of them in one place, I think.

Chewing ginger is a firm favourite of mine, although it can be a little bit harsh on the mouth. I usually brew it in tea aswell.

This hub has inspired me to look into other home remedies - maybe I'll write one about remedies to help with tonsillitis! Thanks for the inspiration!
