Home Remedies for Yeast Infections in Women

Women are prone to yeast infections. Most of the infections take place in the vaginal area, which is called vaginitis. It is caused by a fungus known as Candida Albicans. The warm and moist environment of the vagina helps in the growth of Candida. Vaginitis is associated with symptoms like itching and burning sensation in and around the vagina and a discharge with a strong smell. Apart from conventional medicines, there are many home remedies for yeast infections in women. These home remedies are quite effective in treating candida infections.

There are a number of factors which contribute to the excess growth of yeast in our body. For example, prolonged use of antibiotics may weaken our natural immune system by killing the good and beneficial bacteria which live inside our body. This may lead to an excess growth of yeast and some other parasites. Similarly, excess consumption of alcohol and other fermented and sugary foods also help yeast to grow. Other risk factors are the use of birth control pills and medicines like corticosteroids.

Home remedies for yeast infections in women :--

(a) Yogurt – This is a widely used natural remedy for yeast infections. It contains helpful bacteria which fight several infections including candida. Plain and raw yogurt should be a part of your daily diet. For vaginal infections, apply some on the area around the vagina. Raw yogurt may also be inserted inside the vagina.

(b) Aloe Vera – Aloe Vera juice is also a popular remedy for yeast infections. It has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. It is alkaline in nature and helps to correct the pH balance of our body. It neutralizes the acidic environment which helps in the growth of Candida. It also detoxifies our body.

(c) Garlic – It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic in nature. It is vary useful for treating candida and other infections. It can be taken as garlic cloves, garlic oil or over the counter garlic tabs.

(d) Olive leaf – This is also one of the home remedies for yeast infections in women. It contains antioxidants and has strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It may be consumed in the form of tea. You may also buy olive leaf capsules or olive leaf extract, form the market.

(e) Thyme and Fenugreek – Thyme helps to stimulate the Thymus gland and Fenugreek detoxifies the body. You can make Thyme/Fenugreek tea and drink it twice a day. You may also wash the affected parts with the cold tea.

(f) Goldenseal -- A natural remedy for yeast infections. May be taken in the form of tea, tablets or extracts. Not fit for pregnant women.

(g) Pau D’Arco – It is anti-fungal in nature, helps to cleanse the colon and stimulates immunity. It can be taken in the tea form. Capsules and extracts are also available. Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

(h) Propolis – Fights against all types of parasite and bacteria. Can be used both internally and externally.

(i) Tea Tree Oil – Another natural remedy which is very effective for fighting yeast infections. For mouth yeast infection or Thrush, it can be used as a mouthwash. For skin and nail infections, mix 2 / 3 drops of tea tree oil with some coconut oil and apply the mixture directly to the affected area. For vaginal infections, mix a few drops with warm water and take a bath.

(j) Oil of Oregano – Another one of the home remedies for yeast infections in women. Mix a few drops of the oil with water and drink 2 / 3 times a day. It can also be mixed with coconut oil and applied to the infected parts.

(k) Clove oil, neem oil and coconut oil – All these oils are useful for fighting yeast infections. Clove oil may be mixed with water and taken two / three times a day. Neem oil and coconut oil may be applied externally. Neem oil may also be taken in the form of tea. Pregnant women should avoid neem oil.

(i) Herbs – There are different herbs which may be used to treat yeast infections naturally. Herbs like Echinacea, Cat’s Claw, Black Walnut, Barberry etc. fight all types of yeast infections, stimulate the immune system and purify the blood. These herbs may be taken in the form of tea, capsules or extract. However, these herbs should not be taken by pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Apply these home remedies for yeast infections in women to cure your ailments. These remedies are cheap, easily available and effective.
