Are you stuck at home with a sore throat and couldn’t be bothered going to your doctor or local pharmacy to pick up some meds? Well, the solution to your health problems could be a few steps away – in your own house! Everything you need could already be in your kitchen or bathroom. This hub will outline a few homemade sore throat remedies that you can try. They are often just as effective as over-the-counter drugs or prescription pills.

Gargling with Homemade Sore Throat Remedies

You want to get right at the bacteria in your throat and there are a number of liquids around the house that can kill it. Put half a tablespoon of salt in some warm water, stir the solution and gargle it for a couple minutes. It will reduce the nasty phlegm in your mouth and throat. You can repeat the gargling every couple hours or so. Mouthwash like Listerine or Scope can work as well, but the salt and water mix is lighter on the wallet.

Drinking Homemade Sore Throat Remedies

Apple cider vinegar is one of the best natural homemade remedies for sore throats and can be surprisingly effective. Mix one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and one cup of hot water. Make sure the water is hot and drink it as often throughout the day as you like.

Other fantastic drink remedies for sore throats are lemon and lime juice. You can add some honey to the mixture if you want to sweeten it up a bit. Remember to heat them up. Warm drinks are always better than cold ones when getting over a sore throat. Hot tea and lemonade can also work wonders.

Eating Homemade Sore Throat Remedies

Another way to help soothe a sore throat is to suck on some hard candies. It is one of the simplest homemade remedies for sore throats, but it helps a lot. If you are concerned about the sugar content, then buy some candies that are sugar-free. They will help moisten the inside of your mouth. If your throat is continuously dry then it will take significantly longer to get over your cold.

Garlic can both treat and prevent sore throats as it naturally kills bacteria in your system. It works great for the common cold too. Take one clove of garlic and cut it in half. Stick each half on both sides of your mouth and suck on them like you would with the hard candies. It’s probably not going to taste as good as the candy though so be forewarned. Your breath will really reek afterward so if you’re meeting friends for dinner, it would be wise to gargle with some mouthwash or take a handful of mints with you for the night out.

Getting over your throat health issues can take awhile, but you can speed up the process by taking a number of different homemade sore throat remedies. Remember to get a lot of rest and try to keep your nose clear if the cold has caused a lot of blockage. Eat healthy and drink a lot of liquids – preferably of the hot variety.

Garlic works! I had a terrible cough for two weeks straight and was just about to head to the Dr. when I decided to try taking garlic. I cut up a clove in pill size pieces and swallowed them early in the morning. By that afternoon I was feeling better. A lot better, which seemed crazy after constantly coughing. My coughing literally stopped! It saved me a trip to the Dr. and a bill! Yeah GARLIC:) Voted Up and Useful!
