Updated on August 12, 2012

Itchy scalp is a big problem these days and if you shampoo does not work then try some home remedies to ease the irritation of an itching scalp. Below are some homemade remedies that may help to ease irritation on your scalp.

Apple Cider Vinegar- mix two parts of apple cider vinegar with one part of water and then apply to you scalp leave on for about 24 hours(you may add oils such as lavender to make your hair smell nice). Make sure to use unfiltered apple cider vinegar for best results and apply the mixture after you wash your hair with your regular shampoo. Apple cider vinegar balances the pH of the hair.

Lemon- blend three parts of lemon juice with one part of coconut oil, shake them together, then apply on your scalp, leave for about 15 to 20 minutes, and rinse off. Fresh lemon help reduce if not remove itchy scalp.

Chamomile tea- boil about 2 to 3 teabags of chamomile tea with chopped rosemary about 3 sprigs and then strain and wash your hair with the mixture. If you prefer you, can crush rosemary and mix with chamomile oil.

Banana and plain yoghurt- you will need ½ of banana and ¼ of plain full fat yoghurt whip them together until smooth and apply the mask on your hair for 10 minutes wrapped with a towel. Rinse shampoo and condition. Lactic acid in the yoghurt helps balance the pH in the hair and softens.

Bay leaves crush bay leaves, pour hot water, and soak for 20 minutes then strain let the mixture cool and apply on your hair and leave for 1 hour then rinse off. Bay leaves reduce itchiness on the scalp.

Eucalyptus oil- mix drops of eucalyptus oil with your shampoo. Eucalyptus oil helps with removing bacteria that causes itchiness and soothes the scalp.

Baking Soda- make a paste of baking soda and water but apply small amount of olive oil as base that apply the baking soda on you scalp to ease the itching of the scalp.

Oils-make a mixture of lavender oil, avocado oil, chamomile and eucalyptus oil mix with hot water in bowl and apply on your scalp and it will heal the itchy scalp.

Next time your skin starts to itch open your fridge or cupboard and make a home remedy and apply it on you scalp. Make sure that you always have lemons in your fridge, apple cider vinegar and some lavender oil because it is known for its soothing effect.
