Homeopathy Treatment | Homeopathic Cancer Remedy Carcinosin | A Tipping Point In Its Favor by Ralph Moss ~ Editorial

Updated on January 27, 2016

Meet Dr Ralph Moss

Hope Keeps Us Alive

To tell the truth, I can't imagine the stamina that keeps Ralph Moss going year after year. He's traveled the world in search of the best treatments for cancer. He admits there is not just one thing that works over all. I'm not sure whether he recommends a layered approach to healing or individualized approach based upon each client. I do know he has seen and investigated everything that works or does not work. He is your resource for cutting edge information.  In his own words he says, "There are no 'magic bullets' for cancer. But I have seen dramatic improvement in the lives of some my clients and subscribers." His purpose in life is to make a contribution and help the people and their families through this dreaded disease as painlessly, quickly, and with as little cost as possible.

When you meet him, he will answer your most basic questions about cancer.

Cluck For The Cure

Ralph Moss, an outspoken community advocate for truth in reporting, called the alliance between Komen and KFC an egregious example of "pinkwashing." You know all those kitchen utensils with the pink handles, the pink jewelry and clothing with the logos, and now this! Companies create an appearance of caring for the health and well-being of customers and cancer patients, in particular, by promoting "pink ribboned" products, like a facade that covers up the actual destructive to health behavior of their organization. Why Komen would stoop this low, when they know eating salt laden, heavily oiled and sweetened Fast Foods are linked to the disease? He wrote the company on May 2010 about this issue.

  • Chemotherapy and Cancer | A highly recommended article on Dr Moss's investigation about the effectiveness of chemotherapy Treatment

Introduction to Ralph Moss

I've been reading the articles on Dr Moss's website for over 12 years. He is on the cutting edge of cancer research around the world and presents his findings to the public. This well-respected medical doctor has written and/or edited 12 books and three film documentaries.

Ralph W. Moss, PhD graduated from my hometown in the great New York City public schools systems. He graduated with honors from New York University (BA, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1965) and Stanford University (MA, 1973, PhD, 1974, Classics).

He has a background as a science journalist and assistant director of public affairs at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York (1974-1977). For more than one-quarter of a century Dr Moss investigates all kinds of cancer treatments both conventional and non-conventional and reports on his findings. You can find his detailed reports on, "The Moss Reports" with hundreds of articles.

As a scientist and stickler for detail and background checks, Dr Moss takes a close look at Homeopathy and notes that there IS SOMETHING PROFOUND TO REVIEW. And, the fact that homeopathy changes lives for those living with cancer during a controversial time for an evidence-check to this integrative approach to healing causes us to think twice.

An example of his work includes the reports of benefits of antioxidants in the fight against cancer. He sites a report by Dr Lucien Israel from 1985 that showed high dose Vitamin A helped 100 metastatic breast cancer patients who were treated with chemotherapy, showing significant increase in the complete response rate compared to chemo alone.

You may have read my other Hub articles where I talk about the tipping point. This occurs when there is enough substantial evidence or weight in one direction to move things in a new directions. We have all played the games where if you add one more piece to the pile or stack the entire building tumbles. Or like on a teeter-totter or balancing scale things can hover in the middle or weighted down all on one side until something changes that balance.

That seems to have occurred with recent news about homeopathy. Two hundred years of proof and evidence has not been enough for modern medical society to take a serious look at the advantages and benefits of homeopathy until now.

Hundreds of meta-analysis, journal articles, case studies, and all the thousands of homeopaths practicing around the world have not be enough to make a dent in the prevailing mind-set that homeopathy is simply placebo or less.

That all changes with the new information coming out in these scientific studies on the benefits of homeopathy in reducing cancer cell proliferation.

Maybe it took this kind of dramatic evidence to make the point! It was not enough to hear it helps with ear infections, sinusitis, bronchitis, diarrhea, constipation, nausea and vomiting or even reduction in bleeding. No! It had to go to the most frightening and wide-spread disease that the neigh-sayers cannot believe - CANCER.

We have heard the negative opinion that homeopathy cannot touch or effect malaria, HIV-AIDS and other major diseases. But, this is simply not true. There is substantial evidence that homeopathy works for infectious diseases including influenza and the much hyped Swine Flu.

Moshe Frenkel, MD

Dr Moss is one of the most widely known and trusted alternative CAM physicians around the world

A landmark paper on homeopathy and cancer can be found in the February 2010 issue of the International Journal of Oncology. Moshe Frenkel, MD led a team of scientists from University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDA) in research that confirms the ability of four homeopathic remedies to catalyse "apoptosis" ~ programmed cell death in breast cancer cell lines in the laboratory. The scientists doing this research are from the Integrative Medicine Program, the Department of Molecular Pathology, and the Department of Melanoma Medical Oncology of MDA. Their two Indian collaborators were from the Banerji Homeopathic Research Foundation, Kolkata, India. Dr Banerji is most famous for healing brain cancers and other cancer with homeopathy. The four ultra-dilute remedies used in this research to initiate apoptosis were Carcinosin, Phytolacca, Conium and Thuja.

"The remedies exerted preferential cytotoxic effects against the two breast cancer cell lines, causing cell cycle delay/arrest and apoptosis."

  • Cytotoxic effects of ultra-diluted remedies on breast cancer cells.

  • Dana Ullman remarks that, "Moshe Frenkel is very appreciative of homeopathy. He's a colleague of Menachem Oberbaum, MD, a homeopath and researcher. Moshe has also conducted research on homeopathy and allergies."
  • The fact that reputable scientists, doctors and researchers are interested in discovering the mechanisms by which Homeopathy Works means they are drawn to it in some way. It cannot be dismissed because there is a phenomena at work which they are trying to explain. Thus, when a true scientist observes a change in a state of being, they begin to wonder what is the cause that made this effect.

It is not surprising to me that the apoptosis resulted from the application of Carcinosin and Phytolacca, and appeared similar to the activity of paclitaxel (Taxol), the most commonly used chemotherapeutic drug for breast cancer, when it was tested in the same two adenocarcinoma cell lines investigated in this study.

Phytolacca, commonly called pokeweed root, is considered a weed. In the Southern US the young shoots are collected to be eaten in salads. It is otherwise considered highly toxic. Phytolacca is commonly used by homeopaths for mastitis.

Conium maculatum, poison hemlock, is one of the most famous homeopathic cancer remedies and is known for the keynote, "hard tumor" after injury.

Thuja occidentalis comes from the Eastern Arborvitae tree and is also a widely used homeopathy remedy for cancer patients. It is also used after side-effects from vaccinations.

Carcinosin is a homeopathic nosode, which means it is derived from diseased matter. It is made from a highly diluted extract of breast cancer tissue. All the other remedies in the study came from plant sources.

These four remedies are typically used at the Banerjis' clinic in India to treat breast cancer. The use of poisonous plants to treat cancer, while unusual, is not necessarily controversial. Madagascar periwinkle, for instance, yields the familiar vinca alkaloids--vincristine and vinblastine. The aforementioned paclitaxel (Taxol) is derived from the bark of the Pacific Yew tree.

Scientists and Researchers Question Homeopathic Dilutions

Although scientists use substances derived from plants and animals and even disease substances in their investigations into cancer healing drugs, homeopathy is different. We are familiar with the use of vaccinations which are based on a similar principle of stimulating the immune system into action. Typically, however, chemotherapy treatments reduce the function of the immune system with heavy doses of drugs to stop the cell division.

What everyone calls into question is the high dilution of the homeopathic remedies, and the seemingly impossible notion that they can trigger an effect in the body. The remedies used by the team were: Carcinosin, 30C; Conium maculatum, 3C; Phytolacca decandra, 200C and Thuja occidentalis, 30C. Although, not at all unusual in a homeopaths medicine kit, it does not seem plausible to the western medical model. The fact that results occurred on these cellular samples indicates that even dilute substances can impact growth.

How a Remedy is Made

What About Potency?

The "C" Number

Here is an explanation of the potency level or dilution/succussion levels in homeopathy. So, please note that it is NOT just a diluted substance in water, but it also requires the succussion impact to change the molecular structure of the water.

It is indication of the dilution of the active ingredient in an inert medium such as water. Thus, a "3C" dilution means that there is one molecule of an herb like Conicum maculatum in one million molecules of inert medium. It is theoretically possible that a medicine could consist of just one part of a chemical in a million molecules of inert liquid. For instance, we know that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has set a limit of 2 ppm for polychlorinated biphenols (PCBs) in fish (two parts of PCBs per million parts of fish tissue, per Maxim, 1984).

Message to Commenters

Dear Commenters
Frenkel used controls in his in vitro experiment. He treated some samples with verum alcohol solution and others with pure water. Here's a quote from the breast cancer study:

Approximately 1x106 each of the control and remedy-treated cells were trypsinized, washed twice with cold phosphate-buffered saline (1X PBS) and fixed in 2 ml of ice-cold ethanol (70%) overnight at 4°C.

Ethanol is alcohol. The quote from the study above shows that both the remedy treated and control cells were treated with alcohol, contrary to what anyone else wants to claim. The controls were fine.

There needs to be an objective non-biased mediator whose purpose in life is not to deprecate the work of others outright for personal reasons. The information found on skeptic sights automatically has predestined motivations to be contrary to anything homeopathic.

Getting facts directly from the author, with the opportunity for Dr Frenkel himself to explain the steps of the scientific process and methodology is the only fair solution to those who disagree and find fault with his work.

If anyone "believes" that homeopathy is "placebo" then they will need to provide scientific studies to prove this claim. Any claim must be shown to a court of law for approval to the FDA, especially if they want the government to reclassify these legal substances as placebos.

If anyone wants to make claims on my blogs, they will have to enter their real name and identity and not hide behind a pseudonym.

Banerji clinic in India reports:

As documented by the clinic, 21,888 patients with malignant tumors who were treated only on the Banerji protocol were followed at PBHRF* between 1990 and 2005. Of the patients, 941 had breast cancer. Clinic physicians reported that in 19% of the patients, the malignant tumors completely regressed, and in 21% the tumors were stable or improved with treatment. For patients with stable tumors, follow-up continued for at least 2 years and for as long as 10 years (5). In 2003, Pathak et al reported that an ultra-diluted dose of the homeopathic remedy Ruta graveolens, commonly prescribed as the standard Banerji protocol therapeutic agent for brain cancer, selectively induced death in glioblastoma multiforme cells while promoting the proliferation of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes (6).*
The news of Banerji's successful treatment of cancer patients lends hope to many. The fact that a well-respected medical clinic investigates the potential for a homeopathic treatment means that more sound evidence will be provided over time to either prove or disprove that homeopathy works in these types of cases. So far, the news is positive.
In addition, those who become participants in the MD Anderson's Integrative Medicine Clinic have an interest in finding a non-toxic treatment path and it is their right, privilege and freedom to do so.

Homeopathy obviously is mired in controversy because the beneficial effects defy biological plausibility, yet evidence indicates it may be effective.

My wife suffers from breast cancer which has now spread to various parts of the body. in 2008 when brain mets was discovered; the doctors told me that her maximum life span was 8-10 months.Beyond that every day was a bonus!

She was administered Bio-chemic medicines along with conventional medicines. Today some oncologists grudgingly accept that the homeopathic/Bio-chemic medicines may have slowed the progression of the disease!

Dear Dr Ravi Singh. It is quite true that they are using a means of study that is antithetical to the principles of homeopathy in one way only. Yes, the invitro action by a standardized treatment of all cells by a homeopathic remedy can provide certain results that are not exactly "individualized."

However, as I think about it, we have experiments of homeopathics on plants that prove the veracity of these remedies to cure blight, scales, infestation of insects and molds. So, even the cellular levels can speak to us of their curative actions. It is part of the whole, it is like a hologram or fractal.

These experiments show us that homeopathy DOES have action of living organisms at a cellular level. That is the reason for doing this research. What it doesn't tell us is which is the proper remedy to use for the human being who has symptoms and needs individualized care.

You could almost think of using these particular remedies as uncovering a disease layer or miasm and thus to use a genus-epidemicus remedy or nosode.

I still never understood, how many peoples are claiming for Invitro action of homeopathic medicine or action on some rats or guniea pigs or lower animals, instead in real sense homeopathic medicine are in the form of energy ther act only by stimulating our Vital Force( body energy ) to heal himself.

We should nor draw conclusion that this homeopathic medicine is better for this and this type of cancer. Homeopathic is patient specific rather than drug specific.

Debby...I am guessing that Eovery is pulling your leg OR s/he is a tad confused about what is meant by 30C. First, anyone who says that 30C is a placebo is just making up his/her own facts because this new research (and so many other studies) prove otherwise.

Hello Eovery ~ sorry you did not have a good experience with your 30C. Perhaps you need to consult a professional homeopath who can understand your true nature and find a matching energy remedy. Herbs are very helpful in many situations. They can also cause side-effects when taken improperly.

Yeah, the 30C dilution has turned me off from homeopathic soluiton. You are taking water, as a picebo, which is effective 30-40 percent of the time. Herbs are different.

3-C sound a little more realistic.
